This is another great example of United treating it as if it is a privilege that you get to fly. They don't realize that you flying with them is their privilege. This is the difference shown at Virgin America. A bunch of US airlines are j

Hi Josh, This all sounds great. It's exactly the sort of things I think you should consider you putting next to those portraits or on the Team page. I know you guys have all the technical chops, and as a potential customer, I wanted you to

I'd pay for Mint + Bank in a single package. It looks great. However, it's hard not to be a little disconcerted when the "meet the team" bit doesn't have a single person who has any sort of financial title like "accounts manager" or anythin

For a little bit of context, I've done some plug-in commits in my time and met the important guys in this project. Unlike some categorizations in the comments here, I wouldn't say that the devs are anti-Oracle, they're pro-Hudson . I think

I also read a bit of sarcastic "good luck making a Hudson without the name, we'll still have it". Presumably there would not be any Oracle changes that break plug-ins, so a lot of users would have to manually migrate to a fork. I'm guessing

Kohsuke Kawaguchi (the founder/lead dev) used to work for Sun, and developed Hudson for them. Oracle got Hudson via the acquisition. Kohsuke stayed at Oracle for a while (longer than some other Sun devs, certainly), then left to form Infrad

Games only have value if you have emotional investiture in them. I have no investiture in Stack Overflow points at all, but I do like seeing my karma go up in HN (cue epic downvoting now) as I get some sense that I can hang with the cool ki

I haven't been through a TSA checkpoint when landing in the US, but it might depend where you fly from. The airport I usually enter the US from, Schipol (Amsterdam), has the backscatter machines installed at the gates (not the terminal chec

You've taken a very specific definition of "broken", then decided that the article doesn't meet your definition, so the article is worthless? If you're losing customers for a bit of security theater, I think "broken" is a pretty good term f

This poll is completely task/language dependent. While I would use Vim for scripting, there's no way I'd try Java dev in anything less than Eclipse or Netbeans at this point. This is a silly poll.

Yeah, Google hasn't really seemed to be trying interface-wise since GMail. I hope this points to a broader shift (perhaps the entirely metrics driven interface design that that guy who quit Google was moaning about is gone?)

Sadly, most academics realize that they're data-starved, but industry isn't able to/doesn't want to work with academia to help gain access to that data. Even if you do get access, you're NDA'd so hard that publishing useful papers is a chal

It's far easier to write four to five pages of bullshit than to sit there, come up with creative thoughts, then think about how you would say it, back it up with citations, and then condense it for 8 page papers. Four to five pages of crap

Because groupthink is inherent in the upvoting/downvoting system. Perhaps only Slashdot is the only community I've seen where points are awarded to comments not based on agreement, but on general merit. Admit it: you've downvoted people you

"Sexual abuse" is a very wide spectrum. Unwanted touching is where is begins. That is not to cheapen those who have suffered at the other end of the spectrum.

I don't believe the TSA, at the routine level, make distinction between domestic and not (unless you fit a racial profile). It's when things heat up that the problems begin. Being arrested in the UK as a citizen of the UK is not a big deal

It not necessarily illegal... it's unchallenged in the court system as to whether it is legal or not. Obama has, for the most part, turned a blind eye to much of the Bush-era paranoia. A lot of what was introduced is, I suppose, "convenient
