Yeah, TeX is a really broken tech in 2012. When I tried to look at the base languages to edit a BibTeX file, it blew my mind. I'm lucky that LaTeX has templates that I like, I have no possible means of making one myself. It seems like the w

It depends on your particular flavor of CS. The less-theoryish flavors, like games or graphics, definitely do seem to be accepting of Word, and I've been to a couple conferences where Word was more prevalent. Personally, I can't stand Word

Microsoft needs to do three things: 1. Come out with better, more insightful products. This is something it actually is doing: 360, Windows Phone and Windows 8 all look awesome. I would be very happy for Balmer to leave and for him to be re

Microsoft has a knack for choosing (and approving) the most boneheaded PR stints in the business... do they pay companies for this nonsense or do they just come up with it themselves? In a nutshell, the campaign is "Watch us humiliate you a

This is a wonderfully entitled piece. No company owes you anything if you don't have a contract with them. No person should be indebted to "the users" so much that his/her career stagnates because of it.

There is probably a decent way to communicate to users that the corners are hot, probably via some animation. For example, running apps are available from the left hand side. When an app disappears (eg. hitting the Windows key), just having

Apparently you are under the opinion that Microsoft is deleting Windows 7 from everyone's current PCs. No-one is being forced to upgrade, and security patches for 7 will be coming out for a while yet. I think the users that don't want Windo

You're advocating the retardation of progress for the sake of familiarity, which has never worked for any company at any point in history, and I fail to see why Microsoft would willingly fall into that trap. You innovate or you die, and Mic

Agreed, this is a very odd piece which hinges on the idea that the number of hours you put into a game is indicative of its quality, but you'll find people ploughing hundreds of hours into very poor games. Every game has its fans. Borderlan

If your game has essential elements (not things that are supposed to be mysteries) that it does not present to the player, then it has failed. Not that I would play Borderlands through again, I didn't enjoy it at all.

But they learned iOS and Android, no? The question at hand seems less about how quickly or readily people can adopt Metro than how often they need to leave it. It seems the context switch is actually the hard bit. Metro Office will go a lon

But isn't it the case that the iPad is being manufactured much more cheaply than the competitors can (eg. the Xoom) because of Apple's manufacturing processes? Phones are a slightly different beast. FWIW, I think it's Apple's game to lose.

Angry Birds itself was a rip-off of Crush The Castle. Just having the game design doesn't sell; you have to find the right dressing. If I was the Crush The Castle guys, I'd be crying into my corn flakes every morning.

This article is truly speculative linkbait nonsense. It's better titled: "Do you think a reputable company like OnLive is dumb enough to expose itself to a huge lawsuit?" Ridiculous.
