(TimeSnapper developer here) — you can use TimeSnapper to continually screenshot your work. Run it together it creates a super fast movie. For the purpose of indie log it might be sufficient to handroll a custom script that takes the snapsh

I have a similar “me ware” app for Windows that I completely rely on. Integrates with outlook. Plan to add google calendar. It floats on top and gives a tiny graph of your day, with different colors for each half hour, float over it to see

The .net dependency and code maintenance tool “NDepend” has a feature called CodeQuery that this reminded me of. You can write queries such as: from m in Application. Methods where m.NbLinesOfCode > 30 && m.IsPublic select m

Very nicely done. Consider adding a slider that controls a neural net that generates the content of the book as well. ;)

Poverty in America is a terrible problem but bringing that into this discussion is a derailing tactic (at best). Class inequality is a very widely reported issue with US society. From the little I’ve read white people are not uniquely targe

This is really interesting info tptacek. Yet another type of systemic oppression and just intriguing recent history that was not something I was exposed to a few years ago.

That is off-topic, but it is an interesting explanation. It’s a useful example for thinking about a lot of design situations where two different approaches both seem equally feasible yet are very different and incompatible.

Between ‘wealth’ and ‘psychic pain’ I’d say wealth is the better proxy for measuring power. Do the two correlate?

Collectors (and listeners) of LP records tend to want their items pristine, even if second-hand, as sound quality is easily disturbed. I think books are more the outlier though, where many people are happy for them to be well-loved.

I've done the same. And unsorted returns have a "customers who liked this also liked" aspect.

I do take your point, but I think “house cleaner” in 2020 doesn’t contribute to “the growth engine of the housing market” quite as directly as “software engineer” contributes to the growth engine of the software economy. No one goes around

I have a sheet I use for beating procrastination -- and I see how it fits with this model. The idea of the sheet is that you record four things (dreams, goals, actions and fears) -- and it's the fourth thing: fears (or problems) that rea

This is a poor question as it invokes the Turing tarpit. (Why using any language that is higher level than machine code?) If it is more comfortable to use for some people then it’s a great invention.

I use it and it does not make my project more spaghetti. Be sure to let me know when you put something out in the world. You’ll find that i come around and act in an encouraging manner and do not take pot shots at it without trying it out.

I modify “cd” so that every time I change directory it calls “ok” and thus I get a pretty print of the most useful 1-line commands for that folder. I have .ok in all my projects. Some of those have makefiles, some have cake, some have grunt

You haven’t used or experienced .ok files and are seeing them as a competitor to makefiles and being very defensive. They’re not a competitor to makefiles. With ok you can also name the commands. It’s optional. I would suggest using both, i
