It's great. Personally I am the worst at mental math and resort to a calculator for any stuff beyond 2 digits multiplications, but at least I know how to do it (very slowly) if I have to, and this means I could have an intuition of an

Having done a bit of teaching/grading for computer science, I don't know how to do it reliably nowadays. For math we ask the whole reasoning and not just the answer, but here what do you do ? What I resorted to is a live code revi

I think the calculator parallel is really on point. You learn math before using a calculator to do the boring part. You should learn code before using an AI to generate the boring part. Even more so for LLMs because they are not determinist

I recently had the opportunity to help teach to almost graduate students, (even though I graduated only last year myself), and with the main teacher we made it a point to do a skim code review with ever single one of the 90 students, just

My take is that you learn math before learning how to use a calculator. And can understand what it does and reproduce it (slower) by hand if needed, but everyone is still using it for stuff we don't need to think about. If you use AI e

Look up NewTypes. The article's dance is to avoid having extra fields that are completely unnecessary here. They want some kind of nominal email type, that is actually a string, so can be used in places where a string is needed, but wh

Can someone explain how the "core features" would work ? How/Why is this linked to a TLD and not a hosting provider ?

I would love a Bazzite-style nixos distribution. Like batteries-included for gaming. Is this kind of thing common in the NixOS space ? Like configs you can import that manage 99% of the os for you ?

I post this on every post about Nix I encounter, but I sincerely hope that it gets static electricity typing one day. I have yet to try typenix (a fork of the typescript compiler applying the typescript type system to nix) https:/

That is already happening for old games, and while they usually run on simpler CPUs than modern ones, I don't see why this couldn't be possible for binary Linux drivers. The toolchain would also be easier to match, unless they wer

The only reason I'm not using nix everywhere is the lack of static typing. I just stumbled upon this and i'll give it a go.

Yes, it is worse because using your package manager trusts your distribution (and the packages packager), doing curl bash trusts a random website. While in this case docker is not a random website, it's best to use the package manager
