I don't think you're looking at the project the right way. Think about it like FreeDOS. FreeDOS facilitates running DOS software on modern hardware, and by its open nature, it can continue to evolve and make DOS software runnable

Is it really preferable, hardware-wise, to something like the HTC One? That is, assuming the user is capable of flashing the HTC One with a third-party firmware to get a vanilla Android experience. Is there a draw to the Nexus in comparison

Reading 24 books seems like an awful lot of time committed to doing something other than actually making a product. One of the books was marked optional, though, so there's that.

The problem with YAGNI as a development slogan is that it can be too broadly applied. I think a better wording might be, "don't increase complexity writing code you may not need". The issue is usually not the presence of ad

Using Vim mode in other editors is like replacing all your silverware with only spoons. It's much nicer, shinier silverware, and everything's going great at first, until I subconsciously reach for a knife.

I've become a fan of the micro-paywall. A one-time fee of $5-10 is an amazingly powerful filter. Metafilter, as you said, is one example. Another is the Ruby Rogues Parley mailing list (now Discourse site). I can only imagine what a HN

I so badly want to learn how to really play roguelikes like DCSS. I've never gotten past the wander-around-first-few-levels of NetHack and DCSS. There's so much there!

At least they live in a place not ravaged by war. I feel bad for the people stuck in war zones. At what point do we stop with the one-upmanship and accept that we can feel bad for people on various levels?

It was a mistake to leave that bug unfixed for so long. I'm glad they came around to fixing it. Hopefully this is a sign of a team and project maturing.

What separates this from Nokogiri? (Don't take that as critical, more working code out in the world is better. Just wondering, as I use Nokogiri heavily for our company chat-bot, and couldn't tell the answer at a quick glance.)

I think this observations was much more true of Rails 2.x and before than Rails 3 forward. People forget that "Rails 3" was actually Rails merging with Merb. A lot of hard-coded inflexibility of Rails 2 had to be extracted out, an
