Please see my response to shaddi. Where you're making a mistake is taking my comments and applying them to her specific sequence of events. If you read what I wrote, you'll note that I was not doing this. I was responding to the comment tow

I'm not necessarily saying she did anything incorrectly. I made comments towards the general attitude she espoused at the end of the post. I quoted exactly what I was responding to. Anything else is stuff that I wasn't responding to. >&

I made it a point to entirely direct my comments towards those statements that I quoted, and not towards the specifics of her incident. I didn't want to get into the much more fuzzy and subjective discussion of to what degree her actual act

She has tweeted a link to a working copy of the article: http://blog.nerdchic.net/archives/418/ The tweet quotes the line: "It is not my job to avoid getting assaulted. It is everyone else's job to avoid assaulting me." I think that state

The lack of this is the primary reason I don't consider running Fedora over Ubuntu. Shallow, perhaps, but when you stare at a computer screen all day, good font rendering matters. There is a guy who maintains a set of Fedora packages with v

Gvim/MacVim for me. I was on the Eclipse wagon for a while. Where Gvim finally clicked with me was (1) when I discovered Pathogen for more easily installing plugins, (2) discovering NERDTree, and (3) when I finally got the idea to use somet

This book can not be recommended strongly enough. It was my "a-ha!" moment with JavaScript. Especially for people with programming experience in other languages, it's a gem. It's thin and easy to overlook, but every page is a, "so that's

I think: "computer software engineers" = "application developers" "computer programmers" = "systems programmer" In other words, programmers are spending more of their (paid employment) time writing applications instead of low-level

I can't imagine there's anything that will fix MySpace. MySpace is proof that if you allow users to copy-paste in arbitrary CSS, they will use it to rebuild GeoCities.

Developers aren't server administrators (usually). It's not the best use of their time. I wish I had thought of this when we ran into issues with Windows people and Ruby. Too much of their time was spent fussing with stuff and crying about

I think your porridge is just right. Don't make me read a wall of text to get a simple answer to "is it down?", but clue me in on what's going on and, if possible, when I can expect service to resume. Dropbox isn't critical for us where I w

Here's a hint, dear webmaster. If you find yourself saying things like, "I am shocked that no other website has thought of doing this", you're probably missing something.

While everything you said is correct, at the same time, there's no sense in losing access to data that's recorded and is sitting right there for the taking, if only there were a more convenient way to extract it. It would be very wise of Tw

That point is exactly the first thing I thought of when I read the article. How much of Tumblr's traffic is for "photo blogs" of naked girls? Based on what I've observed, probably a good amount. Not that that traffic is somehow invalid, but

I'm skimming the guidelines, and I don't see a restriction on one of the most well-known app rejections: duplicating functionality of built-in apps. I noticed that guideline 2.11 states, "Apps that duplicate apps already in the App Store ma
