Right now, I "prefer" Facebook because none of the invites people have sent me have even appeared in my Gmail inbox yet. I wouldn't mind so much if the invites were there in my inbox and I clicked on them and the system just didn't let me i

I've suffered the exact same inability to remember the name Ninite. After a while, the name finally stuck, but I've had multiple "scramble around on Google trying to find it again" incidents, as the author described. Though recently, I go

The name "Go" is easy enough to skim past even when authors do properly capitalize it in their post titles. Not capitalizing it is just being mean.

I pay for publications like The Economist and The Atlantic (both of which I read entirely digitally) for exactly that reason. I want quality content when I sit down to spend my precious reading time on something. I can hardly imagine spendi

The day I can get NFL Sunday Ticket streaming to a set-top box (with a decent user experience, not a computer-hooked-to-a-TV one) is the day I'm finished with normal TV service.

37signals takes Rails and makes the products they intend to make. Microsoft has attempted to make a successful cloud platform - their commercials all proclaim, "To the Cloud!" - and yet, they fail, while someone else takes their technology

If you create a blog, don't use fixed headers and footers that take up half a netbook's screen.

I used Windows Mobile 5 and 6. The hill (of their own making) that Microsoft has to climb to get me to even remotely think of them as the provider of a modern smartphone platform is monumental.

The work of the Data Liberation Front team is one of the big reasons I'm willing to use Google services in the first place. I appreciate not having my data held hostage. Google isn't perfect but the DLF team represents an effort to continue

I can't wait. Btrfs has been lingering in "almost ready" state for a while and it seems like the only thing that will kick things to the next level is the threat of it actually being used.

"Pretentious" is among my least favorite words. It usually says more about the speaker than the people that the speaker is labeling with it.

I doubt it. The debate wasn't an indictment of Python, but rather resistance to the idea of replacing SICP (of which Scheme use was simply an implementation detail) with anything else.

Yes, you do have to take the KVM over IP device's security into account, like any other remote service you expose. It's the same set of problems you face with securing your other encrypted remote login (SSH) with similar solutions.

Exactly this. All previously stored data is compromised. Obviously, people can't change their birthdates, but the password reset function unquestionably has to rely only on newly-supplied, uncompromised data.

We also "have the technology" to obliterate the planet many times over. You need a few more facts than just "having the technology" to start inferring things.

As of the last time I tried Netbeans (I have long since moved exclusively to Vim), this was not successful either. I have my font preferences replicated in ~/.fonts.conf and I could not get Netbeans to use those settings either.
