I upgraded my local Ubuntu install to PHP 5.4 solely to take advantage of this. We write Rails apps at work mostly these days, but still have some PHP apps floating around. Now, instead of having to configure something like Apache just for

Someone like that, except imagine that half the pages you end up landing on from Google searches are "marked for deletion". Literally over 50% of the SO pages I end up on are closed questions. If I'm lucky, some kind soul got off a good buz

What this tells me - and it's what I expected even as I put down the money for the iPad 3 - is that in a couple of years, hi-dpi screens will be a stock feature even on the cheapest commodity tablet. That's an amazing thing, if you ask me.

Well, there are some projects still going. But the joke is: Q: Why hasn't Oracle ruined Virtualbox yet? A: Because they're going in alphabetical order.

I'm not too up on the Java world, but starting to poke my toe in with my interest in JRuby and Clojure. So forgive me if this is a dumb question: what is the nature of the Oracle closed source extensions? Are they anything I'm going to care

At my company, we've switched from a wiki to Google Drive to lower the barrier of contributing. As a programmer, wiki syntax seemed pretty obvious to me. But it was a block for some of the non-coders.

This is where someone posts the Joel on Software link about Netscape (I'm on my iPhone else I would). Also, developing a new implementation of PHP allows site development to continue in the meantime.

I think it's a Vim rite of passage to write these posts. Just reading this one now makes me want to write my own, even though I know everyone has seen them a million times and has little interest in my Vim special flower.

I downvoted your original response, but your point became better articulated as you went. The value is in replaceability. It comes down to the question, "if I take this away from you, what will you do then?". Textmate was valuable because i

Please let the iPad version be next. Everyone at our company has embraced Trello and there are a lot of iPads floating around. You can view boards on the web fine, but lose the drag-and-drop niceties in the iPad browser.

I have the 50/5 plan from Time Warner as well, and it's definitely best option around. But 5Mb upstream is still pretty chintzy. Go up to Dallas and you can get 50/25, 75/35, 150/65, and now they're rolling out 300/65. It gets expensive on
