A while ago I read a study where they looked at the matches of dating-apps and they found that women tend to concentrate on the most impressive (so best looking, successful) men available whereas men just try to get someone roughly comparab

I think the skill-gap is not really in being in a romantic relationship but getting one. The skills of being in a successful relationship are similar to the skills of having close friends imo, just more intense. You need to handle conflicts

Why is nobody living there? To me as a european, it looks just like a usual party of a city. Small, individual shops on the floor with offices or homes above. But apparently there are only offices, how? Zoning? No wonder it's strugglin

I really don't think there's enough difference during your studies for it to be justified. Of course it's nice to have a meeting personally with your professor every week, of course it's nice to have brand new classrooms

I don't understand...the team will complain? But it's his job to lead and take care of the team. He's not being pressured, it's part of the job. It's like when employee #2 is having a big fight with #3 because he ne

A friend of mine is working in a somewhat larger, remotely working team and they have a retreat once or twice a year. It's usually a holiday destination, a few days (like the work week) and it looks quite fun. It's one of the few

Thinking about it, what is really unsettling for me is that it views engineers as a commodity and not humans. Like a tool you just toss away if it's not performing to expectations. The embodiment of human resources, at your disposal an

It's always fun if a product is based on 20 year old code where there are parts that nobody can touch because there's nobody around who understands what's going on there. I once saw a flight-training software (I think it was

I totally assumed the examples to be cherry picked but it's still fun to look at. Not every past border is visible on modern maps, but still some are clearly the consequence of those, for example the german maps where the old GDR is th

Beauty is not always about function and text is not always about content. Design and style can communicate a certain vibe or appeal to a certain social group, which might be more important than raw information.

I have completely no authority in this, but my guess it's some sort of path-dependence. I think the problem is that we modelled our economy to rely on fossil fuels instead of trying to diversify way earlier. A finite resource under inc
