Looking at Backblaze's stats, it's true WD are a little better off, but not by a huge amount. If you care about a single drive dying, then yeah, buy WD I guess, but at the same time, I can't imagine a sane case to rely on any

WD was kinda the worst for putting it into their NAS product line though, I don't think any of the others were that bad. You are right though, hard drives are kinda all much the same.

For consumer devices that don't need much RAM, that makes sense, but for servers, I imagine it'll end up as more of an (optionally) tiered set-up, if you look at the Sapphire Rapids chips with HBM on, they can be run with only tha

For sure, not saying there are no issues (sound, shadows, etc...) especially when very close, but some people object to them literally just being in sight, which is wild to me.

Often the kind of thing people hate for a while, and then with enough time becomes iconic and you'd probably end up with an article about how they were debating whether to preserve it or not as it aged. I think about this a lot when it

Just as Valve are making Linux way more viable for gaming, there are still pain points if you are into certain stuff with anti-cheat that doesn't like it, as I understand it, but for my use case, my Steam Deck plays everything I pers

It isn't really true that DHCP and DNS are coupled, it's just a common feature for power user routers as it's convient. There are options for IPv6: PFSense, as an example, has "Assisted" RA mode where devices can us

Graphite thermal pads are available for consumers (e.g: Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut, IC Diamond Graphite) which offer similar performance (within 5°C) to paste without this issue.

I feel like this used to be a bigger issue, now virtually all motherboards have an M.2 A/E key slot for a wifi card and the Intel ones are pretty bulletproof and dirt cheap, in my experience.

I don't think comparing chiplet sizes by summing the area is a good way of doing it, because smaller nodes cost more and have lower yield, and smaller individual chiplets mean way less loss per-wafer, as the bigger the size of a single

The thing is, it's not v6 or v4, it's v6, v4 with a price premium, or v4 with CGNAT. CGNAT sucks. Stuff blocks you because you get lumped in with other users. You can't take inbound connections. Average users don't know

Gender expression (the norms you talk of) is distinct from both gender identity and biological sex, and identity doesn't prescribe them. The difference is you are saying identity has to be prescribed by biological sex. If you want to g

Have you come to the same conclusion for parenthood? Are adopted children not real, and we must not refer to their adoptive parents as "parents"? You understand why that is hateful, right? Biology may be a fact, but we can, and do

The dongle is a short-term conversion because people have old PSUs. In the long term this standard will be built into modern PSUs and it becomes a single cable.
