I agree, I actually meant "central planning" as in "your behavior is centrally planned by your brain". "Consciousness" was a pretty awkwardly chosen word, obviously.

Except the cases where central planning works, like (DUH!) Minitel (until the internet came, it didn't fail, it just got upgraded, duh), going to the Moon (distributed attempt at reaching the moon, also known as the living pyramid), justice

Correlate all data with foursquare too, and on the morning after, send an email with the subject like "Know what Robert really likes? Chocolate. Here's where to get a brand that's like his favorite but he never had it."

Hey, darling, as a european feminist sex-neutral naturalist queer socialist, I tell you, you just replaced libertarianism with nationalism. Stop that. And now to the annoying part of telling you exactly why you're wrong: 1. Unless you're wo

Stating the obvious: App Store only software installs, and other DRM solutions. And yes, that has a price that people may or may not be willing to pay. It's somewhat scary, but I'm starting to think that we will be forced to adopt something

The problem may be hard to notice or acknowledge for many people, but there's actually a lot of pressure put on people to socialize in some way and interact in some way, and that is mean. Being mean in return may not be the most effective r

No. The outlook when we are all reduced to breeding engines that have to like talking about children or else -- that's depressing. I don't see anything depressing about having a walk in the sun, and then eating whatever I like, while either

I get similar issues (long page loads, extremely large lag in chat and questions), while via 3G in Poland. It's not solely 3G's fault, because many other sites (including FB chat) work ok, but it's clearly triggered by a specific environmen

Well, if the standard allows autoplay without user consent then it's broken. Just because a standard is doesn't mean everyone should follow it. It should be followed when it's a good standard, and in this case it's arguable.

Ahahahaha no. Even if that's true, I, for one, despise the idea of any kind of audio autoplay for the web, be that flash or html5. If that breaks web games -- tough luck. I might be OK with some kind of whitelist, though -- same way it work

That's not good design, that's just the esthetics. It's easy to make a steel plate with a handle, but design should incorporate usability (notification LED, for example) and safety (locking mechanism). Without those it's just pretty bad des

Upvoted, but I have a small disagreement: do NOT take a cat (or any animal) while lonely. You won't truly get rid of loneliness, but you will decrease your motivation (by providing small distractions). Animals are fun, but get friends first

It's a malformed version of a genuine research principle. Attachment to research objects is often cited as a deficiency of a publication. But it's not disqualifying by itself, and has nothing to do with advocacy.
