Leave both alone. Sorting by last access time is really useful. Saving the memory dump means there's space for recovery when batteries run out while asleep – it just takes a bit longer.

The problem isn't storing -- remember that we don't know how they store it, we only know how the password is generated. IMEI is intended to be unique and private -- e.g. knowing your IMEI might be enough to report the phone as stolen. If so

Only it has absolutely nothing to do with race. Culture, sure, to some extent, but it's not like the western cultures treat women well -- and if a TV show just focuses on FGM it does start sound like a conspicuously neat excuse to bash cert

"Feminists have remained virtually silent on this matter for the past decade or two." No they didn't. It's a common subject in blogs, forums and such less-visible mediums. But if you think it's easy to get into the media with that, you're w

The general idea is that before becoming a professional you're a student, and get a very significant student discount. Of course, this essentially puts one more barrier for people who can't afford formal studies. And especially with the DRM

Actually, the proper traditional way to insult Open Source is "Open Sores". Use that and the feeling I got during flame wars between high schoolers on IRC channels in the late nineties will be complete.

Actually, the amusing thing is you're still reinforcing the cathedral metaphor. If the primary target of the cathedral was an event hall capable of housing a bunch of people it could have been built in a way more reasonable way. The point o

Not a cathedral because it was not on a software but a near-monopoly market? I love taking metaphors too far, so I'll just notice that "near-monopoly" is what cathedrals are all about.

You need only one process, and, furthermore it being push means it's possible to handle it with way more resources (you don't really have to maintain anything on the client, excluding the relatively rare situations when something important

Because there's a single thing that makes presence useful, which is the device going off or to sleep, y'know, like a desktop computer in the nineties. There aren't many people who maintain their availability by hand, as that's just a pain.

iMessage is based around APNS, which, while proprietary, doesn't require a background process on the client. This is way better than XMPP, and also doesn't try to do things that are pointless on mobile, like maintaining "presence". This doe

I'll just pick this one: it's almost as if this article was partly whimsical, and the idea was to inspire, not prove anything. And the aesthetics of both the formula and the argument are actually the point here. It's a kind of entertainment
