I’ve used Android phones in the past, and Google’s tube person. Siri has IMO clearly gotten worse over time, on both my phone and my HomePods. I wouldn’t be surprised if Google is better at this point.

Ah, well, if Shrinking has Ted Lasso-tier product placement, I’ll probably move it further down my list.

The increasing blatant Apple product placement in Ted Lasso is really really getting to me. It’s utterly tasteless.

Your constant blaming of bad engineers is s clear invitation to point out that you’re incredibly incredibly naive to think that software people are sitting unencumbered by wider business realities and are just deciding to do a Bad Job. You

Ultimately because it’s such a hot topic the “market” is flooded with people that want to crank out content without understanding what they’re talking about.

As someone that doesn’t know how the human brain works, and has never drafted any laws, let alone empirically seen what value an LLM can bring in this scenario, you should certainly quality this with a massive “in my layperson’s opinion”.

Nobody suggested it be left by itself. There are plenty of people that I would’ve leave by themselves to do something, but they still provide value, and I wouldn’t classify them as generating garbage. A technology with shortcomings is not s

Yep. And Americans will typically try to cut it any number of ways that aren’t “the US is uniquely behind the times, given their wealth”. The reality: When I was working retail, in 2010 mind you, customers would very routinely be surprised

Comparing to microservices isn’t really apt, because of how you’re (meant to) slice service responsibilities.

Yep. All part of the idealistic “let’s just sit together and do the code” pipe dream. Which I honestly see as part of the developer superiority complex, where somehow we don’t count as…imperfect…people.

OK, but the usual counter-argument against the claim that there is genuine security benefit in the current situation, is that “nobody will use it”, “hide it several levels deep in settings”, or whatever. You can’t have it both ways.

Genuinely, who do you think is convinced by your comment? You aren’t a lawyer making your case to a jury of dopes. You aren’t going to win everyone over with empty emotive language like “crushed”. To argue that the existence of Cydia means

OK, so fix patent law then. We are already talking about idealistic “let’s change the law” scenarios.

It genuinely sounds like you are generally not aware of the common definitions of the words you’re using. You seem to just be…intuiting them, and using that as the basis for some sort of legal argument.

Yep. It really feels like a bunch of kids read up on ‘90s Microsoft, internalised a third-hand wildly simplified definition of ‘antitrust’, and used it to add a moral high-ground angle to what is essentially an iOS power user feature reques

I’m a new manager. I say this too, and I mean it. I understand that the reality is that people are naturally skeptical of it, and that part of the gig is to overcome that skepticism, deliver value regardless. Part of me trying to overcome t

It honestly sounds like you’ve got an axe to grind in this comment. Plus, “harshly negative” is both ambiguous and loaded. Not to open up the “radical candour” can of worms too much, but there’s a difference between being honest and being a

We aren’t overcomplicating the issue. The premise of this question is wrong, and you like it because it has a very obvious “winning side”, which happens to be the “side” that you’re on.

What argument are you trying to make here? This feels very “I’m going to logic you into my view”. Google is a large, nuanced organisation. The measure of Sundar “caring deeply” doesn’t have to be filtered through a marketing slogan.
