I’m not letting applications access my location just to let it pick a time zone. IP geolocation is often wrong and inaccurate. I’ve had a VPS whose IP was geolocated 360 km away, in another country and time zone. But even with residential I

Try KeePassXC on desktop, KeePass2Android on mobile (there's something on iOS too). There are some pass apps for Android, but they're a pain to use.

> This app isn't available for your device because it was made for an older version of Android. And no, those apps don't work great, because they involve some clunky GPG app.

Pass might work if you really like terminals and only use computers with a Unix-like OS. But if you use a phone, or Windows, pass is just too clunky to use.

I went to their main page and I still don’t know what they’re really doing. "We’re building every tool for product engineers to build successful products." is an entirely meaningless sentence.

People never paid attention to the special EV cert markers. And even if they did, what would stop someone from registering a company named "npm, Inc." and buying an EV cert for it? Sure, it’s going to cost some money upfront, but

Yeah, I changed my primary search engine to DuckDuckGo when Google started forcing incorrect AI results down my throat.

Which decimal separator does it use? Windows’ "English (Sweden)" locale uses commas.

Isn’t 996 paid more than 955? Software engineers on-call is not a great practice, especially if you’re not in a life-critical industry (and most engineers aren’t), even though it’s been normalized.

And can we include on-call in the list as well?

So you’re modifying Terraform? How is your tool better than just using an AI-enabled IDE and asking it to apply the change? How is the auto-revoke handled? Will it require human intervention to merge a PR/apply the Terraform configurat

It would make a lot of sense to do the slow parts in C or Rust. But the only significant slow operation in a package manager is dependency resolution.

Google’s Clock app seems to do most of the things: sliders on main screen, circular time picker (though I’m not exactly a fan), and a toast notification with the time until the alarm fires. The only thing missing are the every day/neve

Packaging tools for language/ecosystem X written in another language Y are always a red flag. They had to reinvent a bunch of wheels, such as parsing metadata, and they probably did it badly. See also: uv.

I went to dell.com, looked at laptops, and the first laptop they showed me [0] has this: 16" 2.5K (2560 x 1600) Anti-Glare Non-Touch 300nits WVA/IPS Display with ComfortView Plus This is absolutely unusable at 100% scale.

My use-case isn't very common? Apple has been selling laptops with high DPI screens since 2012, and over in the PC land, many laptops that aren’t cheapo garbage ship with screens that run at 125% or 150% scale. On the other hand, many

Browsers did display EV certs in very significant ways in the 2010s with green address bars. Safari even hid the URL and only displayed the certificate owner name.

Browsers stopped prominently showing the identities in EV certificates long ago. There is zero value in paying for a TLS certificate.

That `make format` command was not defined by the Make developers, but by the team using Make in their project. They picked their favorite formatter and defined a shortcut. In this case, the uv developers are forcing the command on everyone
