Both BuckleScript and Reason target javascript and Reason Native targets mobile as well. F# targets .net, javascript, and the Xamarin library targets mobile (although I haven't tried it yet). They're all typed ml languages.

Well, now it's also a "nice-ish ML" for javascript, thanks to Fable.

F# For Fun and Profit has a lot of blog posts on how to think functionally and how to use F# for domain modeling. Compositional IT has a lot of good blog posts on how they use F# to solve real world problems. Kit Eason's Stylish F# is

Me too :). I think it hits the sweet spot for me between being as readable, expressive, and low ceremony as Ruby/Python but also type safe.

I mean, `List.map` is often used in a partially applied manner and, used in conjunction with the pipe operator, results in, imho, readable code: [1;2;3;4] |> List.map ((*) 2) |> List.reduce (+)

I've been using F# 5.0's new features with dotnet interactive notebooks and the experience, when working correctly, is pretty nice. Dotnet interactive notebooks still has some rough edges to smooth out (and it's currently onl

I've spent the past 3 months or so working with F# with zero .net experience - I love the language alot but yeah, you will eventually end up learning C# (not that that's a bad thing) if you want to use its extensive and powerful e

There are plenty of well-known functional language paradigms that have been discussed (and satirized) for decades.

In 2020, COVID-19 was the 3rd leading cause of death in the United Staes - behind heart disease and cancer. It's the only cause of death in the top 5 that's transmissible from person to person. People watch what they eat to avoid

I was introduced to OCaml through Elm - a deeply-opinionated language with strict guard rails. In Elm, there is either a happy path or there is no path. As a newcomer, you're not overwhelmed or paralyzed with a plethora of choices on h

If you're seeing F# in a project at work (and in production), isn't that real world use? Anyway, I just sat in a Mathematical Planning seminar with a guy from Quicken Loans who uses F# in production at work (Matthew Crews). He is

I wouldn't think of it as a leaders / follower relationship - it's more so a partnership / fellow colleagues relationship. I'll gladly report to younger people if their perceived nature of our relationship is more f

StimulusJS is one step up from JQuery and formalizes a lot of jQuery patterns that I'd come across - data-target, data-event attributes, etc.

Hopefully F# gets big enough that people will write those libraries - I think people deserve a better Python.

Computation expressions seem like one of F#'s unique features. I assume there are corollaries in other languages - but damn do they make code readable.

That freedom is/was overwhelming for me. With Rails, you can choose the relational database and the frontend libraries you want to use - that's really about it. There's a default path I can take if I want to get up and runnin

I guess I'm being selfish as a developer and thinking about my own ergonomics and dev experience. Is Rails as fast as .NET? Probably not, but if it can serve web pages in under 200ms, it's fast enough.
