Anyone know what the purpose of a "Smart Card Reader" is on a phone like this? I hadn't heard of OpenPGP smart cards before, are they similar to the PGP subset of functionality on Yubikeys?

There's a big difference between "delete my account" and "delete all information you have on me". From people I've spoken to, there have been a lot of companies implementing the latter in order to be compliant.

As a candidate, the shortest pipeline is one I can exit after a 30 minute chat with the hiring manager.

Hiring is a two-way street, if you send me a Hackerrank test before I've spoken to someone about the basics you will have immediately lost me as a candidate. Not even Google is this deaf to the human side of hiring.

I'm hiring into Dublin, Ireland, I think the expectations around timelines are different for me, especially if the candidate will be relocating. I don't remember having anyone enter the pipeline and leave it again by their own cho

They're probably pretty good at the logistics of hiring, which this product seems to be focused on. The performance of individual Google recruiters shouldn't impact it.

That even applies to variants of English. I'm Irish, so I speak Hiberno-English. After the company I worked for was acquired by a California startup my new boss wanted to welcome this new Irish contingent. At the tail end of a keynote

That's to deal with local restrictions, not to deal with US trade embargoes.

China isn't under any embargo that would apply to AWS. Amazon do this to comply with China, not the US.

Why is it that Microsoft are ok with serving traffic from countries under embargo but Google are not? As far as I know Amazon don't follow the embargo like this with AWS traffic either.

Looking at the linked list of sections, it seems the overall stretch is still called Pflanzgarten, just a subsection of that (Stefan-Bellof-S) was renamed in honour of Bellof.

They mention "sustainable" a lot. What is that supposed to mean in this context? If it's supposed to be a headline goal of the project, it would be good to offer a definition for it.

Whatever happens to Gitlab, you have the option of hosting the open source edition yourself. If they get acquired by Oracle in the morning, a fork could conceivably rise to take its place.

I was a Patreon supporter until they received funding from that crypto currency company. I'm waiting to see how that pans out and don't think my money matters much now anyway.
