As in they're integrating Swift into the WebKit project, or exposing Swift-y wrappers over WebKit itself?

What makes you think they’d remove accessibility options like that? They’re generally pretty considerate in that realm.

Every Electron app is going to feel incredibly out of place. And for the few that aren’t okay with feeling out of place, the devs of those apps will now have to contend with shipping more macOS specific styles and workarounds. I’m not looki

Google was reportedly amortizing (by choice) long before this was in effect, so while it might “affect them”, in practice it’s likely business as usual.

I think the site is good overall, but I also found this particular language to be annoying. It feels more like Apple(-esque) marketing than anything.

I mean, as long as Apple continues to support ObjC, you can use any language that has an ObjC interface. I've shipped native AppKit stuff in Rust before, people have done Ruby, etc. ObjC is one of the greatest "glue languages"

Most of that crowd that I interact with was already off Telegram to begin with, and (in some cases, begrudgingly) run their own Matrix instances. I think if you interact with non-tech-users, Signal is the go-to; Matrix has way too many thor

Last I checked, WebkitGTK does not have parity with WebKit on iOS, and plenty of devs do test on that platform anyway - so I'm not sure what you're talking about? You're right to correct someone saying _most_ apps don't

There is an unfortunate increasing trend to build desktop apps that only live in one window, so it's not really a "disqualification" - perhaps more a "complication".

Tauri does not do this in all cases, as WebkitGTK on Linux has performance issues and is often the ugly duckling of everything. I also feel like I will have to, yet again, trot out the comment from a Slack dev that explains why they moved _

I spent half an hour dealing with a group I’m in getting off the platform today. Frustratingly, the majority wanted iMessage. I’d prefer Signal but the story for backups on iOS is still a mess, and nobody wants to deal with it.

Your use case is not tinkering. For many others it undoubtedly is. The person you’re responding to is seemingly just pushing back on the weird idea that iOS users don’t have technical acumen or whatever.

I know what the feature is called. I would not consider something so confusing to the end user to be a security feature. This is a bug, or you could use the label "broken".

Apple themselves have a quirk in some cases where apps that aren’t in an Applications folder get mounted as read-only. Granted I haven’t seen the bug in awhile, but I also never saw acknowledgement of it being fixed so…
