If the phenomenon was people ordering take out and picking it up themselves, I might be inclined to agree. It's not, though - you still have sticker shock of fees/tips/etc on DoorDash (etc.) orders. Tipping is an issue in Ame

Just because Microsoft does one thing doesn't mean Apple has to do the same.

System76 runs their own fork of Iced and commits things back to Iced, but in practice this hasn’t been as much as people seem to think. Accessibility falls under this: to my knowledge Cosmic has it, Iced does not.

Am I misreading your comment? You’ve always used GitHub but never known it could work over ssh? Isn’t it the default method of cloning when you’re signed in and working on your own repository…?

I left the "mostly" in my comment because custom allocators is one area where Rust as an ecosystem is still in need of some work, and I'm aware of that - hell, in part because of TigerBeetle's blog posts on the subject.

The older I get, the more I roll my eyes at language wars. I don't know of any other class of engineering that spends this much time on such weird attachments.

I truly do not understand why anyone would think Rust is abstracting things away. Like, to be clear: if you want to develop in Zig because you like it for whatever reason, you should do that. There is no world, nor will there ever be a worl

I'm the first to tell people they can disable SIP, but it's not something that everyone should do. i.e, blanket disabling of SIP will interfere with conveniences like Apple Pay, etc. People want those conveniences. Disabling SIP

Apple is not the only platform where you effectively pay to have it signed. At some point people need to let this go and accept that the wider industry has started to go this way.

No, it’s not that big a request. You literally have the capability. The average user does not need it. What is hard about this?

Devices that rely on Halium actually work . I’ll take that over your perceived “dead on arrival” status right now - especially since by the time anything in that ecosystem changes I’ll be ready to swap devices again anyway.

Halium is fine. If you wait around to be purist on this issue all day, nothing will ever change. Something like e.g FuriLabs is good for growing the ecosystem and getting people actually exposed to something other than iOS/Android.

…uh huh. It’s not ridiculous, and you are relying purely on your anecdotal experiences to attempt to say otherwise. That is fine, you have every right to do that - but it does not negate the litany of media in English and Japanese that has

It is not overstated. You have an anecdotal experience compared to plenty of written reviews of the situation Kyoto (and Japan in general) is facing with regards to tourism.

We know. The forges aren’t decentralized though (barring bits like Sourcehut pushing for email patch workflows). Thats part of what ATP is potentially helping to solve for here.

You know you can discuss languages without the weird emotional labeling from your last paragraph, right? Plenty of people wonder. It’s part of building the language.

"lecturing" is carrying a lot of needless weight here. Their comment doesn't read like that, they're just pointing out that the metric itself isn't what it seems to be.

Those other browsers are footnotes in the browser wars era of 2000s IE6 territory. Yes, even Opera - it never hit the heights that Firefox did outside of niche markets, even though they were great about a lot of other things.

WebKit is not lacking in things your average dev needs and it’s not that big of a deal to work around, much like it’s not that big a deal to work around things in Gecko - or presumably Ladybird whenever it becomes usable enough.
