What do you mean? I don't know of any country except the US where SSN is used for authentication. In my country SSN is public information.

I don't think that's a use case since you don't get rate limited when using the API.

I don't think AI has made me enjoy programming less. If anything it has made me love it even more. The biggest benefit for me is that it has helped me with procrastination. Instead of "I'll do it tomorrow" I will just as

Go look at the top comment of this thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40900482 That's the kind of stuff I want to see when opening a thread on HN, but most of the times we get shallow snark like yours instead

Infuriating that you actually think Lebron James is that famous outside the US.

Am I the only one who almost never experience any hallucinations when talking to ChatGPT? I have to really push it into a corner with trick questions and conflicting instructions about obscure topics in order to trigger hallucinations. That

I keep seeing this being thrown around but ChatGPT can do addition just fine since at least GPT-3.5. Not that I care or expect it to (why would I use an LLM for math?) but still.

I don't like that. "Recognizes" implies that it only works because it has seen exactly that before but I can throw data in a completely made-up format that the world has never seen at an LLM and tell it to convert it to anoth

I think Figma is one of the few companies where generative AI makes sense, and that's also why they run into problems - because it's actually useful. All the other companies trying to force AI into their products will not get this

The fact that everyone is so certain makes me think the analysis is incorrect. Especially when it's coming from the HN crowd which is notoriously bad at predicting things.

GPT3.5 used to hallucinate a lot but it was drastically improved with 4, to a point where I can't even remember the last time it did it. It feels like people are exaggerating or basing it on the experience with old models.

I very seldom experience hallucinations and I'm a really heavy user of ChatGPT. Can someone give me a prompt that is likely to generate hallucinations?

Is it really that much better? I'm really happy with GPT-4o's coding capabilities and very seldom experience problems with hallucinations or incorrect responses, so I'm intrigued by how much better it can actually be.

Nothing wrong with JS here. MMOs are I/O bound which Node is great at.

I don't understand in what apps it's acceptable for the client to be able to write to the database directly. Or how you can get away without any backend logic. I have the same questions about Supabase and Firestore so it seems lik

I can ask ChatGPT extremely specific programming questions and get working code solving it. This is not something I can do with a search engine. Another thing a search engine cannot do that I use ChatGPT for on a daily basis is taking unstr

We like to think we're above everyone else but in reality our technical expertise is mostly irrelevant when evaluating the utility. I've been programming for 20 years and I can't think of a single thing I know that puts me in
