Both versions of Edge are used for webviews in native apps, removing it would break lots of them. Even not UWP ones, since both the Spartan webview and the new Chromium-based webview2 can be used in normal desktop apps too. For example, the

That was WSL1, WSL2 is a micro-vm running the Linux kernel and whatever userland you want. Ubuntu is just the most advertised one, but all are equally unsupported by MSFT, support is provided by the distro "vendor"

What I've found to be most alien to people used to bash is that Powershell is fundamentally different because of its object-passing style instead of dealing with text streams, usually once someone gets a grasp on this their experience

Some of these are fixed or there's progress being made: - IMHO PowerShell is not that bad, but the newer PowerShell Core works better and with WSL you can use your favorite linux shell (and mix and match Windows and Linux binaries) - W

Since they released their 2016 lineup there has been a shift from Macs to Linux and Windows (just look at how many "I left macOS for {X}" have been published here on HN) Windows is also making a very compelling argument with WSL2

Some of these changes are happening in the runtime itself, so many projects will get benefits just by updating to a newer version (something you would have to do anyway to get GC improvements). For example, System.Text.Json is the default i

Most of .NET is moving towards avoiding heap allocations altogether, the latest versions improved a lot in that sense. A great example is the new System.Text.Json API, that can serialize/deserialize JSON documents up to 1 MB with 0 hea

Isn't it? The UI is rendered using web technologies inside a specialized browser and it's written in a web-specific language. I might consider an electron app an hybrid app (that leans heavily towards the web side), but for sure n
