I upvoted you. Although it was self promoting are we not seeing the forest for the trees? HN is run by a startup promoter and it all about startups and promoting startups and monitizing startups. To me your idea is perfectly legit. Altho

Problem is from historical conventions of what a square and rectangle are. A square is not really a thing, its a description of a thing. In this case, proportions of the sides of a shape. So when you translate this into object oriented lan

Right now I'm relaxing with some HN and listening to the sounds of crickets and the occasional car passing by. I swear, if a neighbor installs one of these things, and I can hear it (whooshing noises, or it develops a noise from just normal

Thank you lutorm and andrewf for the great replies. lutorm, I appreciate your example of the brightness of galaxies needing to be altered, pretty much just compressing the dynamic range (borrowed from audio, sorry). I will never picture ga

Pictures like these bother me because I don't know which have been manipulated (brightness, contrast, color, etc), for public consumption or to highlight certain features for study. Anybody know if there are unaltered images from Hubble?

Clearly, having hundreds of perfectly aligned, glossy and drop-shadowed images makes for a much better user experience. Will this be done in Flash or HTML 7? Giant image maps? Props for putting a gradient on absolutely everything.

I have two questions, maybe somebody with expertise could answer them. 1. What is the breakthrough here? Delivery of medicine through feeder vessel? The idea of how to implement it (needle, robots, tube, etc)? Or just the actual design of

I call shenanigans on Dr Einstein. “Sheep May Safely Graze" is as pop-ish as Bach can get and it would not have been surprising if Bing Crosby put lyrics to it and sang it.

I wrote something like this a while ago and just got reamed by all the CSS koolaid drinkers. But unlike Sass it doesn't abandon the cascade, and things look a lot simplier, at least to me. I guess because its in LUA it wasn't cool enough.
