Caching effects. If you have an x-thread CPU and you split your workload into y >> x parts, it might happen that suddenly a workload fits into a faster CPU cache level (e.g. L1 instead of L2) and then you see huge speedups. I've

With the mentioned tools, you can build a fantastic and bloat-less website. Like HackerNews. The person who sent that CV could build the HackerNews frontend. It all depends on what your goals are: Do you want a modern, bloated, ugly, generi

No two homepages were alike. There was certainly no such thing as a Content Management System. But it didn’t mean that the homepage content wasn’t managed. You know, you can do that too even with a modern website and a clean blog. I have

A whole lot of rain will pour down on those panels every year. You should be fine unless you live in a really dry and dusty area. Or if you have trees overhead which leave sticky leaves on your roof.

I think the standard is, once again, bonkers about this. In practice float is 32 bit and double is 64 bit and both adhere to the IEEE754 standard. I have yet to see a platform that implements floating point numbers and float and double are

Critical thinking is really easy. Just take something that is self-evident or obvious and start thinking about why you believe that thing. Doubt it for a moment and come up with evidence for (or against) the thing. If you get into the habit

I couldn't agree more. What a pain. GitHub good bye, hello GitLab (I already am on Bitbucket). Currently, Microsoft is blocking an open source mod of the Halo Online engine, called ElDewrito. It's an incredibly fun to play mod but

> OpenDUNE is written in ANSI C (C89) Wow! That's badass and hardcore! Not even C++ or C99. Gotta respect that. No clean header for fixed size types (uint32_t), no vectors, no references. Coding like that is tough.

Yes and how do we find out if we're infected? It can't be that hard, now can it? Once you know what you have to be looking for - it has to be some kind of file or altered binary since stage 1 is persistent.

OpenWRT is fantastic. Critical security patches come within days of the vulnerability being disclosed, the thing compiles with little hassle on Linux Ubuntu and it runs stable and it's very lean and fast.

Question: What is freemasonry about and why did you join it? I read up on them quite a bit but I just didn't find any good examples of actual goals and activities they are pursuing. Do Masons have a hacker mentality?

The thing is that proving small functions to be correct is often quite useless. You can cover them well enough with a set of unit tests. The big challenge are larger parts of the code, like entire classes or parts of a program. These kinds
