I suspect the author is making a good point, but it is far from adequately supported. Merely an assertion of opinion, not a even really a fleshed-out essay. Here’s the real shit, scariest thing I’ve ever read: The Erosion of Deep Literacy

Having done both, and everything in between… I’m continuing to move steadily away from binary implementation decisions. You spend money, it gets done quicker (sometimes, but that’s the intent) but if it’s not the right thing, it’s a waste.

The silicone valves exacerbate this problem by forcing a buildup of air pressure. Cheap ones cause a mess even when the bottle is full, whether by excessive resistance, asymmetrical imprecision of the valve sectors, or fucking both. I’ve st

I could have been a bit clearer. What he wanted to squash was not the vote but the independence movement. He set the bar low, expected the Scots wouldn’t clear it, and then there would be incontrovertible proof it would never happen. But th

The 2014 referendum was at the gracious condescension of the UK’s worst ever PM, David Cameron. He manipulated the rules to try to squash it, and it very nearly bit his ass clean off. Not learning the obvious lesson, he tried it again with

When my kid was younger, I’d be asked: When would you go back to in a time machine? Dinosaurs? Cave people? Romans? I’d always reply: Nothing before antibiotics, anesthesia and modern dentistry. Love it or hate it, this year I’m gratefu

The entire Viridian site is still up. Includes nearly 500 essays by Pope-Emperor Bruce Stirling himself. There's even an active link to a Cafe Press shop where you can still buy a Big Mike t-shirt. http://www.viridiandesign.

2014. The result was much closer than polls predicted. The argument is the circumstances have fundamentally changed: Brexit (2016) is proven to be an economic and regulatory disaster, and Scotland is out of the EU against its will (62% vote

If the pro-independence parties vote to hold one “anyway”, the pro-union parties have said they won’t cooperate, doing so specifically to delegitimize the result as representing the will of all the people. That said, I agree with you.

They may as well. I was making a different implication, which is that the Square Mile calls the tune, the rest of London and England have no choice but to dance along, and that everyone else will bugger off soon enough.
