Yes, strain relief is key. Even more so for soldered connections where vibration is significant. But really, no joint is immune to problems without some kind of strain relief to prevent stress concentrations at the rigidity transitions. I a

You’d be surprised. I think it varies with the update, but I’ve often suspected that it has been optimized for role-play at some level. As OAI looks for mass-market fit I expect this to continue.

True enough, but I would take it one farther and say that a properly executed hand splice is arguably preferable to solder if vibration is a factor. Also, even less tools needed, though not everyone carries a little tube of conductive grea

Really nice project. If you are thinking commercial you may want to look into IP issues to see if there are active patents (probably expired by now?) As far as design choices, based on my journeys in similar types of projects: (just my$.02,

Genie soldering is not preferred for high vibration environments. Crimping is considered more reliable. Proper strain relief and anti corrosion treatment is key.

So, it’s not the local strength of the gravitational field, but the overall mass that matters? How does that work? I mean, if distance/ intensity doesn’t matter, than distance is irrelevant? That seems extremely counterintuitive. I tho

The problem , really, is human cognitive dissonance. We draw false conclusions that competence at some tasks implies competence at another. It’s not a universal human problem, we intuit that a front end loader , just because it can dig rea

The key to this working efficiently is responsible planning and zoning. Single family dwellings / 1-2 story housing is not likely to be viable adjacent to growing urban areas. Zoning should reflect this. This disincentives building si

Sure you can. It requires a responsible government to align incentives. There is no axiomatic problem for building enough housing. The problem is the housing-as-investment paradigm, which only works if there is a perpetual housing shortage

Yeah, it’s not an investment strategy for me. I give them away to people I think can use them or,rarely, leave them in the use of neighbors for some unlikely future use. I generally don’t ever sell land. Except in rare cases, to buy more la

Well, the trick to finding it cheap is to not look for anything/anywhere specific, so I doubt I can help with that. It’s not that I am good at it, it’s that when I’m momentarily bored, I’m not in a picky mood. If it’s cheap and I can

As far as upkeep, most of these lots are already in unimproved land, where everything around is also unimproved. Road access is usually at least there. So, no mandatory upkeep except looking at satellite photos once every couple of months.

Just check eBay. If you want it to turn out good, it’s best to go and see. If we’re talking about $1200 parcels, it costs more to vet than to buy. Just look it over and judge the best you can on the information you can gather, and accept th
