Talos is for the host installation where the kubelet runs, not as a base OS for the base container image

You can include them and download an image from our image builder factory.talos.dev They’re even shareable images. Eg here’s the image with gvisor included https://factory.talos.dev/?arch=amd64&cmdline-set=true&exten

K8s binaries are downloaded separately. Specifically they’re downloaded and run inside containers on the host.

Looks like it has similar goals to bin which I highly recommend for binary installs from GitHub. https://github.com/marcosnils/bin

That’s a really cool idea I don’t know how any of those systems work and not sure I will ever need to but I love what you’ve built for other people to learn it in a safe and cheaper way

Thanks for clarification how it compares. I've used Steam, Moonlight, and wolf with varying degrees of success. I don't game very often, but I almost never do it from my desktop. I've been interested in low latency, GPU enabl

Would the Swift UI also work on an iPad? Do you have any comparisons with other tools (eg steam streaming, moonlight)

Are there docs on how this compares to other GitOps controllers or how it’s different from helm v2 (with tiller)?

This is interesting but I'm curious what some of it means. For example, if I analyze the Kubernetes swagger spec [1] the tool gives it a quality score of 10% (terrible) and I'm curious why this score would matter or why spending t

The benefit of Talos isn't low binary count but that _can_ reduce the amount of maintenance required. The benefit is declarative API driven management. You spend less time automating a system to a desired state in a similar vein Kubern

They are similar but extensions don't have to be binaries. It can also be files you need to be available before Kubernetes starts. Talos is purpose built to run Kubernetes workloads and not general purpose Linux. Hopefully, you don

Is there a metrics that can convey the complexity of a general purpose init system like systemd vs a single purpose init like Talos' machined? That is what I was trying to convey and couldn't find a reasonable metric.

We use “system extensions” to give you flexibility while keeping the base small. Want GPU drivers? Add the extension. Need Tailscale? Extension. https://www.talos.dev/v1.6/talos-guides/configuration/system...

I agree number of binaries is an arbitrary metric but also an indicator that things work differently with Talos. You have to use the declarative API for management which some people could see as a bad thing. I’d also like to point out that

Thanks for clarifying because that was the vibe I was going for (not hate). I'm using projectbluefin.io for all my laptops/desktops and love it. Wouldn't want the same on single-purpose, production servers.

I know there are a lot more lines and I didn’t count any of the imports from systemd either. 300 loc (machined) vs 3000 loc (systemd) was the closest comparison I could think of without crawling all imports and deps. Would be happy to updat

I’m actually a big fan of systemd. It’s an awesome, general purpose, and flexible init system. I don’t think the complexity it brings is required for Kubernetes.

Many of the binaries you see in the demo video are showing processes running from inside containers. There will be a lot more processes once you start pulling containers and starting containerized services. Notably the kubelet is also missi
