I could see both those lobbies being much reduced after the EV changeover.

One which can be obtained the good way, or the bad way, yes. EVs will reduce pressure to allow damaging pipelines and shale oil.

EVs are going to drive out gasoline for very comparable reasons to digital cameras driving out film cameras. That's a win for CO2, a win for air pollution in cities (that may be shaving points off people's IQ and definitely is sha

That would treat the ducted air but it wouldn't treat the air already in the room. And if the air is being recycled, it would still linger for some bounded time before being pumped back through treatment. Having the UV in the room with

It's non-specific because I'm not trying to write a manifesto right now. Nation state or sub-national state governments are not the only way to organise things that are done by society and for society.

No, that's just a problem that lives in a different layer of how we organise the world. Right now we haven't decided to operate these centralised things as services provided by society, to society. Right now, they are owned by peo

If I remember right the GC lives on a thread, even if the program runs serially.

Yes, I understand the idea, the point I'm making is that the runtime is a monolith, it can't be split because each piece has necessary and irreducible connections to the other pieces.

It is an unreasonable goal if (1) it's wildly outside the expected use cases and (2) it complicates things. Both of which would apply.

The GC needs to mess with and start and stop and throttle threads. The threads resize their stacks and that needs to talk to the GC. System calls park and restart threads. And so forth. If you use any of it you'd need all of it.

I'm imagining that the Go people would have a hard time making the compiled program smaller, because they're bundling in a M:N threading system, inter-thread channels, a garbage collector, a stack resizer, a syscall parking and re

The answer is that every time they green-wash, the problem simply isn't solved, and the fight to solve it properly must continue.

Banning people is an upside. Setting boundaries of acceptable behaviour is necessary for having a space where people won't be troll-brigaded and hate-swarmed, and where the worst people on the internet don't drive out everyone els

It's a wish list, but it's full of things I know are hard. Or at least things where the difference between doing them kinda poorly, and doing them with style, is a few billion dollars worth of established natural language processi

That neener-neener attitude is a great example of why advertisers need to be told "just no, for the entire rest of your lives, without exception". What fraction of your lifespan spent behind bars do you care to wager that you can

Ads should simply be illegal anywhere, anywhen. Perhaps if we did that for, say, 80 years, then after the last advertiser has dropped dead of advanced age, we could cautiously re-enable the legality of purely informational, manipulation-fre
