If you are still considering PHP frameworks, then your choices are really Symfony or Laravel (maybe Zend at a stretch). Yes, Laravel does have a high "bus factor", but for me personally its the number one choice in terms of ecosys

Given that the Laravel tests completed fine in all previous benchmarks, I'm guessing that there is something else amiss here.

Yes, this. Why is this all-or-nothing approach romanticised? There are untold thousands of bootstrapped companies slowly building their product without taking on any (or very little) outside funding and earning a decent living. It may not h

There is a massive gulf between "winning the lottery ticket" and failing. There are many many many startups (or whatever term you want to give them) that create a good living for the founder, and perhaps a few employees as well. N

Sorry, but this is mostly wrong. PHP has two awesome frameworks - Symfony and Laravel. They both have their pro's and con's, but both are very mature frameworks that can both match Rails or Django in their own rights. Both of full

Do not, under any circumstances, use CodeIgniter. It will teach you all sorts of rubbish, and the framework is dieing (or dead). Laravel is light years ahead.

Yes, I have to agree that the pricing is very misleading. How many startups have 8 servers? I would have though that 2-4 is more like the norm, in which case the price is more like $50 - $100 per server

I really really dislike their pricing scheme. We have 5000 subscribers, but only send 1 email every month or two. This costs $55. Compare this to someone that has 500 subscribers, and sends each of them 10 emails per month - that only costs
