Actually there is little thinking about "Amazon" or other competitor: internal mobility is easy. So replace "Amazon" by "this other team is doing a cool new project", and you can get transferred in a matter of

Note that while it is quite know and admitted at Google, is there a company where it is different? People are complaining about Radar tickets not being fixed while new (half-baked) features keep shipping on iOS as well, and it is somehow fo

Without being a car enthusiast these are clearly not in the same category to me. I have hard time believing anyone being close to an X would not feel it: it is much higher. You feel much higher on the road seating in it. It is less clear

If you want to do an analogy with GPU compute shaders, I think it is more accurate to compare to how GPUs can scale the number of cores without (potentially) the need to recompile, as long as enough blocks are scheduled. This is orthogonal

You lose binary portability though: what is you can write you image processing code such that it operates well whether your SIMD instructions is 4, 8, or 16 wide? (or more). Then shipping this binary for mobile phones for instance would tak

LLVM allows direct push to master from its contributor. If we were to go through pull-requests, we wouldn't need anything as GitHub has this setting built-in: https://help.github.com/articles/configuring-commit-reb

> we use a pre-receive hook But in the context of this discussion, LLVM is moving to GitHub and there is no possibility of custom pre-receive hook there as far as I know.

This is about rebasing "user branches" and/or "pull-requests", if your project is referencing un-merged pull-request as a submodule, there is something fishy.

This is quite simplistic: it does not scale on projects with a combination many "PR" in flights (many developers) and hours of CI resources to validate.

The main reason I'm using worktree instead of two clones is that you can commit in one and cherry-pick in the other immediately, without pushing/fetching. You can rebase the branch in development in worktree 2 on top of something
