This is exactly the point of Windows 8! Need to do work? Use the classic desktop. Aside from the Start Menu it hasn't really changed. Office doesn't even look like it will open in Metro. Want to 'consume' content? Undock it and use it as a

There is no need to speculate, Anandtech has already tested the battery performance of of Ivy Bridge i7s: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5872/intel-dual-core-ivy-bridg... It seems safe to assume they put a 36 watt hour battery in there (iP

If you read the article you'll see that they're only sending their custom font to OSX. PCs get Georgia. On OSX, resolution is enough to determine pixel density at the granularity they need because of the limited number of products Apple has

In building this, I had to look this up for each rule. http://CSS3Please.com has the most compact 'reasoning' for each in the form of comments. To answer your specific question, all browsers that support it do so without prefixes, but n

The bandwidth saved once gzipped cannot possibly outweigh the downside of another HTTP connection for the JS file and then the processing time needed to run it. Additionally a JS file at the top of your page will be blocking. The benefit t

I used LESS Elements for a while -- its shortcomings caused me to build this. I can't fault LESS Elements too much since I think the problems it has are caused by choosing a syntax before CSS3 was stabilized. The main issue it has is that i

It's not quite as complete, and comes with other idioms as well so it's not as portable. I'm not really sure why they put so many different things in a single file to be honest.

I disagree. The best way to become better at basketball isn't to play pickup games exclusively. It's also important to engage in deliberate practice on individual skills and micro-skills. In this case he is turning out several designs a we

If anything the shows you list are exceptions that prove the rule. Parks and Rec, Desperate Housewives and the Office are not exactly aspirational portrayals of non-city living. Modern family is about people older than Gen Y members and is

Here is my unpublished example from about 18 months ago: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/124944/unfold/index.html It's unpublished because it doesn't work very well, (webkit only I think) but it does 'work' on arbitrary content and will create a

Here are the actual numbers from Anandtech (knows displays well): http://www.anandtech.com/show/5689/the-new-ipad-retina-displ... Essentially it covers sRGB but "only" 65% of Adobe RGB colorspace. For reference, the Apple 27" Cinema Displ

Poor 4g battery life is not a core property of the technology. The radios in current phones are still made on an outdated 45nm process. That will change to 28nm this year which will improve things quite a bit. http://www.anandtech.com/show

Assuming this comment is a response to what the article said, your reasoning is circular. Lessig blames both the change in laws/regulations and Goldman going public for the issues. We can't nail Goldman with fraud under the existing laws. T

Increasingly. To my knowledge, all desktop browsers ignore this spec and treat each pixel as a pixel. (This will likely change with the upcoming Retina Macbook Pros) For a while all mobile devices treated all pixels as a pixel. But then iOS

The book written establishes a copyright, not a patent. Bringing this back to technology with an example: Palm synthesized the smart phone and color LCD screen in ~2004. I'm pretty glad all smartphones have color screens today.
