Well, you want to be witty, but that‘s exactly the point of an analogy: Make things that are different comparable, so you can come to conclusions about thing A even though you only have knowledge of thing B. You might want to try to strengt

Not giving a guy who’s bringing nothing to the table but money 51% of your company sounds like a good idea. Not trying to be mean, but as soon as I read that I was like „Oh boy...“

Can someone help me understand the context of this? Is this just some philosophical thought-experiment, or is there a real problem to be solved? Also: If blackmailing becomes legal before soft drugs do I'm gonna be SO pissed :D

I realize that advertising provides actual value. It just seems that it became too much. It went from something that should be an add-on to the main income source for some of the biggest companies in the world. That‘s way too much power in

That‘s so absurd though. It went from „hey let‘s put a banner in this popular place, so people will know us“ to „let‘s police this place so people will only associate us with nice things“ This whole ad-based internet needs to die.

You do realize that static web-sites is what the internet was built on, right? It does work! And frankly, it‘s very well suited if all you want to do is display an article. Maybe i was woooshed here, not sure.

I‘m not sure I get the point. So you‘re saying most truck drivers can‘t afford health insurance, income protection, etc.? Are they in the group of the „working poor“?

Why would he even ask "can we tell people?" Is keeping the programming languages your company uses a secret something people assume by default? Now I just feel stupid for working mostly in Java. (It's handy and it works. Leav

I think we may be talking about different things here. So in the interest of clearing things up: I was using the example of a neural network as "the closest thing" (arguably still very far off) to the human mind we have in computi

Wouldn't it be more fitting to call it a godly amount of computational power then? :) We're only looking at it from the inside perspective. Who knows, maybe our simulation overlords (ourselves?) already placed us in a far better p

I get where you're coming from, but I didn't get the impression that GP was ignorant to new developments. In my experience the most important thing is really wrapping your head around a domain to be able to solve concrete problems

At the lowest level of every computer there's only zeroes and ones. Still you don't try to explain a neural network in terms of zeroes and ones. Because the emergent behaviour is much more complex than that.

Oh, but don't forget that one congregation of dust particles that flew by us really fast, which _might_ (who am I kidding - we all know it's 100%!) have been an alien probe. Oumuamua is what it's been called.

One of the author's points is that it's a fallacy to believe people can be explained / lead purely by rational thinking or facts. Emotions play a huge part in human life and realities like this will always need to be taken in
