Ring alarm system, and Yale door lock. I use ring-mqtt, so I can see the individual door sensors in Home Assistant, and have automations setup that include them. Edit: I also have some older Ring door sensors directly connected to Home Assi

My security system and the door lock have sensors to detect if the front door and the garage are closed or open.

I have an automation that locks my front door, closes the garage door if it’s open, and arms my home alarm. I can let someone in my house if I’m away, and I can see at a glance if someone left the garage door open when it should be closed.

Apple didn’t bow to the carriers. You can speculate that only Apple could have done that, but Google’s deference to carriers has continued with RCS. Given their market position now, I think it’s just a preference in doing business.

Have been using Rectangles for a while. I like Swish's tiling options, though! I'll have to give it a try.

Setting the "Double-click a window's title bar" action to Zoom just fills the vertical space. It doesn't adjust the width to fill available space, which is usually what I want. Finder, as an example, almost never sets th

I never understood the enter for rename shortcut. People open (or "execute", which is the general understanding of the action for the "enter" key) files far more than they rename them.

The cost of student loans is nothing compared to the value that those degree holders will provide. In my opinion, your first degree at a public university or community college should be paid for by the Federal government as long as you keep

You can add digital or analog seconds to most of the faces that accept complications. I use the Solar face with the analog seconds view, which is larger than the complications.

From what I can tell, the upper time limit for magnetic media is generally expected to be 30 years[1]. My money is on survivorship bias for longer time frames. I've had 5 1/4" and 3 1/2" floppies die on me within mo

Yep. We tested SP2 vs SP3 on our college network. SP2 was compromised within 2 minutes. SP3 needed AV, but lasted over a day.

I use Python for AWS, a lot. Last I checked, to use the Azure Python module you have to setup an Enterprise app, which seemed like overkill to me, and not something I think most of our sys admins would want to do. Maybe I’m wrong?

Are there any currently-supported versions of Windows that don’t support Powershell Core? I recall installing it on Windows 2012, even. > Say what you want about bash, at least it doesn’t pull stunts pile that. I guess it depends on what

I’m curious about the scenarios that Powershell used to work for you in, and what tooling you’ve moved on to. Do you use something else for Write-Once-Run-(Nearly)Anywhere type scripts? I primarily write Powershell Core scripts for scenario

People have personified devices and machines for centuries. My wife’s laptops have been “Lappy” (from Strongbad) since she’s had one. It would be odd to start drawing a line at a particular type of device.
