I’m sure that somewhere, a poll was fabricated to make this seem true. Much like the maps showing Facebook shares supporting Trump and thereby “proving” that Trump was really winning, and the polls were rigged. People remember the last exam

You're not lying - I just downloaded it, and it is crazy fast. GMail (maybe not the best metric, but an important one for me) loads about twice as fast as in Chrome, and scrolling has no stuttering at all, even on very long pages. I ma

Most charities file a 990 that includes a calculation of how much money they spend on fundraising relative to how much they raised, for example.

There are a few sites that do this, but one that I use to evaluate charities is Giving Matters. You can access quite a lot of information for free, and it's reasonably well designed.

I don't know if single-payer is the way to go, but I don't think that short-term disruption is a valid argument against almost anything, if there is evidence of mid-to-long-term benefit. Separation of healthcare benefits from empl

That breaks both ways: only a fairly advanced attacker could "change their face" to access your phone. So Face ID still covers the 99% of cases Troy talks about. For the rest, I'm not sure a PIN works, either, so they'd

That's a pretty weak argument. The existence of regulation - even heavy regulation - in an industry is not a barometer of their value to consumers. But there are a lot of reasons why an industry who scores credit worthiness would be h

Huge differences in quality between your first and second paragraphs. It is the business of credit agencies to serve as proxies of your credit worthiness. They prosper when more people are in the credit pool and are able to take out loans.

I do all of my work on Windows 10 Insider Edition. I have an update about once every other week or so, and have to reboot. In between those times, I only put my laptop to sleep by shutting the lid, and wake it up by opening the lid. Despite

I've found audio books where the narrator has a repetitious rhythm that doesn't vary too much to also be as good as music or white noise, for the same reason.

I've heard way too many Volt-on-fire related jokes to agree, unfortunately. Tesla had a very aggressive response to the Tesla accident a few years back, and still suffered as a result of it. Big retailers like Lowes cultivate a reputat

It would be odd if it only occurred in one place in the world. But I do wonder if the deep embedding of mathematical concepts in various forms of Buddhism encouraged higher order thinking.

Containerized apps are a step in the right direction. I like the concept that Mac/iOS uses for app installation. Although I've seen users lose an app they've just run way too often

Using a structure other than the file to store information about the file seems like a big problem (like the iTunes example Josh used). It's inherently not portable. Even if the OS took extra steps to copy the additional data along wit

I was surprised, too. I found this article[0] which specifically calls out boats as having been invented before the wheel. It puts the wheel's invention in good perspective, I think. Regarding boats capable of crossing the ocean: Austr

It's part of a bigger trend that MS is engaged in to move most of their apps to the App Store: Mail, Feedback Hub, Calendar, Maps, etc, are all in the Store. It makes updating one of the apps separate from updating the OS (and Windows

Relevance is huge. If you're shown an ad for something that you don't care about (which is most of the time, for most people), it will not be effective. However the right ad at the right time is very effective. But that's imp

I don't think we have enough data to be sceptical about the presence of certainty of life on other planets. We've only found ~3,700 planets other than Earth - and only ~20 of those are near the size of Earth[0]. We couldn't e
