Gunpowder-infused fabric or paper was being used for fuses around the 10th century, as well[0]. I always thought this depiction came from fireworks, which had fuses both linking multiple devices and also serving as a (relatively) safer poin

Casing doesn’t matter for Powershell commands, but it certainly Improves readability. Aliases certainly help when typing commands, too. I haven’t had startup speed issues with Powershell Core, but when I do, it’s usually because of commands

I was thinking of this paragraph. However, after I re-read the article, it seems that there are other numbers that aren't spelled out. Maybe it was an auto-transcription? > Already in nineteen-ninety-one they found the Clowes-Campus

Side tangent: Why are most of her numbers, except dates, spelled out? Is this some convention specific to her country of origin or something?

That developer has some really cool apps. Just switched to macOS from Windows and already discovered there’s no way to mimic middle click on the touchpad. This person has an app for that!

I've had a Lenovo X1 Carbon for the past 3 years, and it's been the best computer I've ever used. It's ridiculously light, rock solid physically, and still performs fast enough to handle most of the work I throw at it. I

My take is that the article is about this person's reliability issues with their MBP. Regardless of which party actually paid for the repairs, the fact that so many repairs/replacements were required doesn't speak well for Ap

I don’t think they’re replacing pretend play. My kids just played Minecraft for an hour, and are now engaged in making “tables” by stacking bean bags on each other then jumping on top of them. My 5 year old has a pretend language, even.

Second scoop: it’s smart use of symlinks and no need for admin is exactly what Windows CLI needs.

Or even trying to determine which value represents year, month, or day. Internet date format is the only way to go, IMO.

I don’t know what the parent comment said, but more screenshots on your site would be great! The .org site you linked to had screenshots on the front page, which was great, but a gallery link would be fantastic.

In some contexts pasting a copied file pastes the full path to it. For example, copy a file, then paste into the Open dialogs name input, and you’ll get the full path to the file.

But a gram of AirPods is more expensive to recycle than a gram of plastic, because it’s more complex. That makes it more expensive, and presumably less likely to be recycled after being discarded.

I think the problem is volume > individual cost. Apple sold 60 million AirPods in 2019[1]. That number has surely gone up in 2020 and may even be larger in 2021. 1 https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-sold-nearly-60-mill

I’ve never done this in the states. It seems borderline unethical to require someone to sign a contract without any compensation.

I was informally taught that a plug goes into a socket. Cables and adapters commonly have the same connector on each end, making the plug/socket terminology even less descriptive of the connecting formats.

This was sarcasm, right? I’m not one of the old-timers by any stretch, but I’ve seen plenty of code that compensates for workarounds introduced by poor planning or hastily-cobbled code.

If you're dealing with files that small then JSON is a great solution. In the past I've used CSV to handle files that are several GB after being compressed and encrypted. Formats such as JSON would have added a lot more to the tot

JSON is easier for people to consume, but formats like csv can be much more efficient when comparing the amount of space used, and easier to consume for an application.

I expect what we’ll end up with is languages like TS supporting a flag to convert all/most index lookups into .at() notation. Or maybe it’ll just be an eslint flag. I absolutely agree that some metadata at the top of a module enabling
