The problem is there is very, very little equity given to early employees. I went to one of YC's "work at a startup" events and Sam Altman himself got on stage and called out basically every company there for this very issue

What does "drop-in replacement for WordPress" mean exactly? At first I thought it meant I could maybe go to cosmicjs.com, enter a url and the username and password for my WordPress site, hit a button and have my site magically mig

The best code is code you don't have to write, because someone else has already written it. I've decided that number of libraries is the most important feature of a language, which is of course strongly correlated with popularity.

I think most would agree that integration tests are better. The problem is they tend to be slower. Having to initialize the system appropriately for every test (e.g. writing to the database) tends to limit the number of tests you can have.

SquareSpace, Wix, Shopify, and Elementor (a WordPress plugin) have all caught on. The first three are more than page-builders, but the page-builder is an important component. They're just not popular with the HN crowd.

Closing issues without addressing them does indeed present a problem for this approach. The guy behind lodash is especially aggressive about this which is why lodash is the #1 repo on all of GitHub according to this metric ( http:/

In theory you are correct, but in my practical experience, I've found that the ratio does in fact convey quality quite strongly. The original motivation behind this project was this: I wrote a script to take a screenshot of my desktop

Indeed over time a project will accumulate more stars and issues. It's the ratio that's important. You can think of them as something like upvotes vs downvotes. Except the downvotes are much more meaningful because it takes a dr

Presumeably the number of open issues should be proportional, no? A high star/open-issue ratio suggests people like the library and are not having problems with it. (And if they do have problems those problems are addressed -- i.e. iss

Yeah, but they are apparently out of date: https://github.com/baidu/Familia/issues/70 And the pretrained models it ships with are trained against a Mandarin corpus.

I mainly look at the ratio of stars to open issues. I find this to be a very good heuristic: http://repoq.com/baidu/Familia/ http://repoq.com/nltk/nltk http://repoq.com/RaRe-T

I've been looking into topic modeling lately. It looks like this is the best library for doing that: https://github.com/baidu/Familia Time to learn Mandarin I guess.

Maybe the answer is to pre-sell a very simple product that you are certain you can build. Any half-decent engineer can build a CRUD app that consumes a spreadsheet and renders some graphs, for example. You can add all the theoretical magic

It would be interesting to graph the valuations of all of these companies over time. You could make the x-axis "company age" rather than time in order to make a more apples-to-apples comparison between older YC companies and young

I've been using the offline version of Draw.io for this. You can save diagrams as individual xml files. Unfortunately the data is base64 encoded by default so you have to manually convert them to a searchable format. I wrote a script t

I am not dying for a synopsis. But I would still like one. Mostly because I've been trying to stick all of my knowledge into draw.io diagrams. And the first step of doing that is getting a textual version of the information.

I actually once offered some guy in India $100 to summarize a list of articles of for me. Sending the money internationally was by far the biggest pain point. So yeah, cryptocurrency could be the key ingredient that makes this idea work.

I think a lot of people need to start from the basics because they don't have a good foundation in math. The core problem is schools will push you along if you can somehow produce the correct answer for 70% of the problems on a test. C
