Totally. I've found that there are three approaches to that. The first is that almost any conversation will slow down for a good story. If you get good at commanding the attention of folks in the conversation, and your stories are enga

Practice makes perfect! Tell a lot of stories! Also read and listen to stories. Watch good storytellers and see what they do. Find interesting angles to mundane ideas. I'll ask people "What did you do this weekend?" and they&

No kids. I wake up at 7:30am, walk the dog, then exercise (choose one: 30 minute run, 60 minute walk, 60 minute lift weights). Quick shower, then breakfast/protein shake. First meeting between 9 and 9:30. Lunch at noon. I mix it up wit

Yeah, I might say something to the effect of "I thought I ordered the salmon," and if they say "Oh no, I thought it was the burger," then I'll just shrug and be happy with the burger. But I'm not going to berat

I agree. Context is everything. A "test" in a work environment is one thing, but at a restaurant? My priorities are totally different at a restaurant. I just want to eat and have a good time. I don't need to be in control. Th

Sort of! Your approach of "searching filters" is certainly a shortcut into larger query understanding, and for your use-case, depending on the size and variety of your catalog, it may be totally sufficient. You're actually li

This is actually where something like Elasticsearch would work significantly better than Postgres Full Text Search. PFTS is pretty good when you have a small data set and all of the relevant keywords are in the product data, but as OP disco

I hesitate to respond, because I'm generally not interested in arguing on the internet. I'm also not entirely sure if you're just being pedantic or not, but IMO this is a pretty narrow view of "career progression."

Director-level here. It's great that you gave it a shot, but management isn't for everyone! In fact, when most engineers come to me and say "I want to be a manager," the first thing I say is "No, you don't.&quo

You could consider getting a solar roof! I have no particular expertise here, but a guy down the street from me got one, and he loves it so far (~1.5 years into it). Here's an article about it with a few vendors, including Tesla, that

I enjoyed KKC when I first read them, but I haven't re-read them. I think Rothfuss is a talented writer, but given that the third book is MIA for going on 10 years, I'm not inclined to recommend it to anyone, unless you're OK
