Playing devil's advocate: those people are taking some job. If a Startup A hires an engineer for more money preventing Startup B from hiring them they needs to fill their position and may not be able to find a person. Of course, one

Manhattan Mini Storage does free trips to/from your storage unit, you just have to book in advance and fit into a van. It was awesome when I was using them.

This article is about how two-factor authentication is great and should be used everywhere. It is not about passwords going away.

If you're using google docs for your collaboration this sort of commenting is built in. It's a great feature. Almost better than collaborative editing

After seeing the episode of The Lookout[1] about online flower services which contract out to local florists I decided to use the local florists directly. The gist of it was that the local flower shops will tend to give a more skimpy arrang

Is this going to be freemium like NewsBlur or pay-only? I'm happy to use the service and tell people how much I like it (and at first glance I like it a lot more than the other readers I've used!), but I have ~20 feeds almost all

It seems like this is going to be heavily biased away from traditionally published books if the authors/publishers have to upload the chapter. I'd actually prefer they were using Amazon to pull in mainstream books.

I was just playing around with option+menu bar items and discovered that notifications can be disabled by option-clicking the notification center icon on the far right in Mountain Lion. Then if you click to open notification center there is

I really enjoyed reading the Something Awful legal threats (although I didn't read the site itself): http://www.somethingawful.com/d/legal-threats/ It's unclear if Lowtax just got bored of responding or

Until it has syncing there isn't really any differentiation from the desktop readers listed here: http://alternativeto.net/software/google-reader/ The more the merrier, though. It's nice to see all of th

I really like the idea of alternating the color of lines of output, although I might use something a bit less bold. Is there an easy way to have command piped through this in bash?

Awesome. If I needed access to feeds again I'd definitely use superfeedr.

SuperFeedr is awesome and Julien is great to work with as a user of the service. I wish they had this feature when I was working on my multi-medium client (now defunct) a year and a half ago. The only downside—and why I stopped using it—is

Here's one of the main discussion threads from python-ideas about adding enums: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!searchin/pytho... It goes into a lot of detail about why it's so hard for an enum type to be all things for all

Voice recognition is also useful when it's really cold out and you have gloves on, or when you can't/don't want to be looking at your phone (e.g. because you're navigating a crowded or dangerous place)

At the University of Waterloo where I went we had a co-op program where people would get (usually) reasonably well paid internships. We switched between work and school every 4 months, so when you were done you had a 4-year degree and 2 ye

I've been doing a broad job search for the last month, and my general impression is that the numbers are too low on those sites (in NYC, with 7-8 years of experience). It basically meant that I was in for a pleasant surprise! I don't actua

I went to one in NYC. It was neat to see talks by a couple people from Google NY before the conference began, but I am not sure that I got much from watching the conference itself there.

I've been very happily using Blogofile. It's what Mike Bayer uses for SQLAlchemy. There's a built in blog engine, and it uses Mako templates, which are significantly better than the django ones. It also by default will recognize multiple

I can't speak to the truth of that, but the conclusion the author tries to draw from it: "and hence how designers of e-learning materials need to avoid creating cognitive overload." is totally ridiculous. His conclusion might be true, but

I believe this is the problem that Storm was supposed to solve ( https://github.com/nathanmarz/storm ). Or Amazon's SWF ( http://aws.amazon.com/swf/ ). They work in the case where you can define the flow between all of the tasks.

The coolest part of dateutil isn't the parser, it's the recurrence rules and recurrence rule sets. Doing that on your own is extremely error-prone if you have a non-trivial recurrence.

Interestingly, the Verizon FiOS landline that I got for free with my TV/internet package has a battery backup because it does require electricity. That is definitely true of traditional land lines, though.

I spoke to someone in Amazon's NYC event earlier this year, and they said the reservations are used to help guide their hardware purchases. Since the hardware will be around for quite a while, they require longer terms (for now, anyway)
