My problem with HackerNews API (having done something like this -- the Hacker News Filter on Github) is that you get throttled after you hit a certain number of HTTP requests and your IP gets banned for a certain amount of time. So as nice

For me the Twitter use case is to keep myself stimulated while working remotely by interactions with other people in my field, catch breaking news as it happens (e.g. blog articles on new tech), and to promote work that I have done (e.g. bl

One important thing to note is that you can be good in all of the roles but not be able to do all of them on the same project. For example, I find personally that I have a very difficult time being a finisher and starter on the same project

For me it is more a tool that I would use once a week to make sure I didn't miss anything I wanted to see that week on HN. The alternative is reading every headline multiple times a day and this isn't always feasible.

This should probably be called the Heroku OS X Client, rather than giving it a new name (i.e. "Toolbelt") and implying that it is something new.

Can I ask a simple question: Why? I live in Europe, but AFAIK none of the places where I've lived/am regular even have an HN meetup. I have no idea we would want a splintered HN.

An even older adage (from Confucius) : "I will hold up one corner. If the student does not return, with enthusiasm, having raised the other three, the Lesson ends."

It is a bit of a bait and switch, you don't let people know that you think it is a "damn good tool" until towards the end. I'm ultimately neutral on this. It sort of works to keep your audience engaged with your writing, but is a bit of a c

Not sure why it needs the sensationalist title if the author's underlying point is simply that Coffeescript is a pretty good tool for writing nicely patterned Javascript and not a language in and of itself. I guess it is a marketing ploy. I

Sorry to say this, but it sounds pitiful when the final line of your number 1 startup is "even attracting attention and investment from Hollywood bigwigs such as Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary and Ashton Kutcher." That said, I'll be in Berlin

Thanks, added to my Amazon wishlist! I'm planning to pull aside some SAP consultants at some point soon and get them to show me the inner workings of the SAP stack. It is amazing to me that they only provide documentation to people who take

My point was that in no case (Google/Facebook/Apple) does anyone have "a copy" of the core product that they can extend. The developer platforms of each are in a sense extensions to the core products and most "hacking" around Google/Faceboo

Agree with the rephrased emphasis and likely placement on mentioned silly diagram. SAP Streamworks was pretty interesting IMO, but I don't think there was any opportunity to engage independent developers. Hard to expect anything like that o

I agree, there is cause for some to be concerned about a "reputation damaging" attack. For most of us, however, this would be an annoyance and mere blip in our social presence. Also, what I mentioned is that there is not much incentive for

Clarification much appreciated. Original email (e.g. request for upvote) probably would have been fine if you hadn't presented the 2 months of SEOMoz as a prize for the upvote.

Got an email that if I upvote this item on Hacker News I get two free months of SEOMoz. How much of that sort of stuff happens here? How many of the 127+ points this item has are from incentivized SEO?

In the recent Thiel debate he said in fact that he supported undergrad education inclusive of non-technical degrees and was personally glad he did what he did. The larger question related to increasing price tag vs. decreasing value.

My impression is that Google also always returns wikipedia when you have "wiki" as a search term. Only an extra two characters.

If the problem is that you are too timid to get things done normally, the solution is not to get drunk. The solution is to get some balls.
