I'm a 15-minute walk from Davis Square, where the subway is, and my rent is only $425 / month. Not only is Boston the #2 city by number of startups: http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2006/06/startup-centers.ht... It's the #1 city by numbe

Great points. Maybe video "blogging" isn't the right term. There's definitely a lot more video content being produced these days, but little innovation in the platforms supporting it.

That's not a bad WordPress theme idea. But that's not at all what I'm suggesting, because... That doesn't improve the video player interface at all. That doesn't make metadata for videos any better. That doesn't provide any improvements in

"Wordpress.com 20 years more advanced, for video blogging" is one of mine. I'd love to hear critiques of it. I realize the "pitch" is bad, but did you read any of the other sections?; I'm trying to convey that it's not just a hosted platfor

As with any business, you'd want to do due diligence. If I couldn't look at the code, I wouldn't buy it. Most web apps could be reproduced without ever looking at the code behind it, so allowing you to do so shouldn't be an issue. Buying a

Even better than a bookmarklet, make it so that anyone can type your URL in front of the one they want PDFed, and it will do so automatically. e.g. http://pdfmyurl.com/news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1190151 Aviary.com does this for site scr

I don't think there are enough connections among individuals in the community to make that work. HN doesn't place a high priority on identity. No avatars, no karma display, no username differentiation. I'd bet the average HN member can only

Nicole's points seem to waver between / be both: - Don't give ideas away, they're valuable, and your creative skills should be as valued as much as a lawyer's legal skills. and - Giving ideas to people when they're not going to give you

Some constructive criticism: 1) You haven't provided any contact info. The e-mail address in your HN profile isn't publicly visible; you need to type it somewhere in the bio field if you want others to see it. 2) It's unclear what you mean

http://prezi.com/ 's front page has taken a turn for the worse, but they create some visually interesting presentations. If you have to use slides specifically, take a look at Garr Reynold's (PresentationZen.com guy) sample slides... htt

I'd suggest 3 methods that might get you a good result: 1) E-mail pg@ycombinator.com, taking note of his advice from http://paulgraham.com/info.html Since you're in Boston, ask if he'll be here anytime in the next couple of months, and if

The problem is "technical audience" is still too broad to guarantee relevance. Relevance is the most important thing when placing ads. If you're really set on using an ad network (rather than managing advertisement yourself) use something t

Nice initiative, but the implementation makes it seem like only a marginal improvement over http://twitter.com/NewsYcombinator - There are too many quick-voted two-pointers that pop onto the front page for just a bit.

Third option: put it out into the world for others to do something with it. I've had enough big ideas to know they won't be the last. It's better for me to finish what I've started. But if an idea really is a big one, it's beneficial to me

There's no way it would be more cost-efficient for people to take even a $0.50 / mile cab trip in their daily transportation than it would a $15/week bus & subway pass. The congestion would be unbelievable, both on the highway and parti
