I have used Mail.app and the default mail app on windows 10 a lot. Can you believe that the default windows mail app is even worse? Very basic features are still missing after many years...

Many bridges have collapsed in Italy recently. So, yeah, they do not always last hundred years...

You can use Dijkstra as a traversal, since you don’t need and endpoint. I still agree that comparing a DFS and an A* is a bit strange, they have different use cases.

I don’t think Musescore falls in the “move fast” category at all. They were simply naive (and underestimating how much pop music would be transcribed and uploaded). In any case, I found their communication very clear.

Sure. But rust was not possible without all the research and little prototype languages. I think it’s good that many people are trying many things (as long as they clearly report their findings).

Or you use suitcase to make a GUI for this tool ;-)

I think it should not be Turing complete. It should never loop and tooling should be able to decide that a configuration file never loops!

Depends on which gates you allow in your design. But the SMT encoding is really flexible, so you can adjust it for your needs.

Ah this explains so much! We were having a lot of trouble having meetings with more than 5 people. Nobody here uses chrome (for good reasons.)

I understand the hate for Zoom. But... We have tried Jitsi a few weeks ago. And we couldn’t scale to meetings with more than 5 people. We tried our own server and theirs. Then there is Skype and Hangouts. With both I can only meet for two h

I’ve listened to an interview with a virologist (is that the word?) She said that there have been many studies in how droplets move when people sneeze and cough. These studies have been done with different sized droplets. She said that 1m i

I feel like this bug should be solved by using a proper parsing, instead of greedily looking for a field...

Two points. 1) Currently, the code could be written with normal overloading (one for int and one for unsigned). No traits required. 2) The current code relies on an implicit cast to int or unsigned int. I’m not sure that’s good.

I have used ConTeXt for a bit. And it made me like TeX again. The typesetting is actually great. It does ligatures, kerning, right to left scripts, Arabic, and more. I think LaTeX is where it went wrong, with all the incompatible packages w

I just started to look into Rust. And while reading the book, I kept thinking: “this is much easier than c++”, exactly for the reasons you mention. In C++ there is quite some things you need to keep in mind while programming (like whether s

I have written quite some Haskell in my life, but never a line of python. For me this tutorial makes sense, it shows the underlying maths. So I don’t really understand your negative attitude.

I agree that this would look more readable if they used a library for the vector math, instead of doing everything by hand.

Edward Kmett has a talk about parsing with monoids [0]. Somehow that seems an elegant way of doing layout based syntax. I have never done it myself, though. [0] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txf7swrcLYs
