People also try to look up the MX records for the domain to see if it has a valid mail server. This works 95% of the time--but breaks in certain cases leading to false positives. As olavk said, just do basic validation (@ exists) and send o

I frequently use: set pastetoggle=<F11> This toggles paste mode which allows you to paste without indention getting screwed up.

As everyone points out, web hosting in general is very crowded. That being said I've seen plenty of hosts thrive in the reseller market. One suggestion is don't compete on price. You'll never win. Find something else like quality or custome

Thanks guys, I feel much better knowing this shouldn't be an issue. This isn't for a product--it will be accessed by me and one or two writers. I'm also looking at using their user system for regular users. Do you see any problems with that

He's on Microsoft's payroll but he's a Mac guy? Say what you want about the man but, but I think he does a good job balancing his opinion with the facts.

One thing I'm doing to keep the cost of a designer low is to have them focus on things I know I'm not good at. I can slice the layout in Photoshop, markup the HTML and code the CSS--so I don't have the designer do any of these things. I hav

Tichy, I never said you said that. $100 is very reasonable for a quality designer--personally I find $75/hr to be a good rate for the type of work I'm looking for. My whole post wasn't geared towards your comment--so I apologize if it came

I'd disagree here. While an average designer probably does make less than an average developer, often people are quick to assume design isn't important--and therefore not worth paying for. Sure it's easy to throw a design together and make

Very cool. I was thinking this would be some type of cookie hack. This is pretty clever tho. I'm not positive on the overhead for this. Loading a couple of links in an iframe shouldn't be too expensive. But if it were a problem you could ea

I'll second SitePoint. They have some very high profile sites sold on a daily basis in their marketplace.

I actually really like TextWrangler. It's close enough to BBEdit I don't mind the missing features for it being free. If you're looking for "1 window development" try Coda: http://www.panic.com/coda/ Otherwise I concur with what everyone

Unicode support would be great. Is this planned for PHP6 or just being discussed?

While slightly different, this creates the same exact problem as goto statements. Reading/writing code should be linear. Introducing goto statements allows you to "jump around" inside your code--which is bad form and confusing.

I actually like where PHP6 is headed: http://www.php.net/~derick/meeting-notes.html There are a couple things I don't agree with. Like adding goto statements. Really? Come on...PHP... But it seems PHP6 wants to finally remove old deprecat

Very cool. I heard Leah talking about this on Scoble's Qik stream at Google App Engine launch. I think it would be cool to return a movie source parameter. This would be nearly identical to the way images worked. The reason for this is you
