You will need the version of Zig used by Bun. It’s a few months old, just before LLVM 13 -> 14 migration https://github.com/oven-sh/zig It can be built, but you will also need to compile JSC from bun’s WebKit repo

Haven't experimented enough with text-based lockfile formats. It's worth trying. To make serialization fast though, it would still need to do structure of arrays instead of an array of structures. Instead of each package being an

That new HTTP server (Deno.serve) is being used Bun’s http server is single-threaded, single-process right now. I think it’s really important to get single-threaded performance right before concurrency. Bun will eventually support builtin

Zig is great. The editor tooling could use some more work but I think after their new stage2 compiler is more ready, it sounds like they’ll invest more into that.

There have been musl builds of Bun before but there were a couple subtle bugs regarding thread spawning. I’m also not sure about posix_spawn implementation - would need to read up on that

Have you looked at `__ulock_wake` versus `os_unfair_lock_with_options`? __ulock_wake is another private darwin API for locking. From some Zig code: // Darwin XNU 7195.50.7.100.1 introduced __ulock_wait2 and migrated code

Sourcemaps are technically already implemented, but not for bundled dependencies. Initially, it was a 30% drop, but I made it use lots of SIMD and that compensated a lot. When you use Bun's runtime, it transpiles every file (including

On macOS it explicitly uses clonefile() On Linux, not yet. I don't have a machine that supports reflinks right now and I am hesitant to push code for this without manually testing it works. That being said, it does use copy_file_range

Does bitcode have the same performance gains from `-emit-llvm -flto=full`? It seems like Clang is better at inlining across compilation units when -emit-llvm is passed, but it also seems to store additional object files in temporary files?

Unfortunately, reading files from .zip can be considerably slower than the filesystem. On an Ubuntu x86_64 machine with an SSD, require("react") with Yarn PnP ends up 4x slower than when installed from npm (Node 14.17.6).

This is 100% the reason why. Having > 500 people in the GitHub repository distracts me from getting it to be done enough for a public release (but still worth it)
