Thats not exactly apples to apples. The powershell equivalent is probably more comparable. Also, it all depends on what you value; cryptic one liners definitely will get you geek cred, but working with other people not as smart as you will

I respect your trying to bring attention to incivility on HN, but in what way is the user anonymous? Their account seems old enough and has plenty karma to make me respect their opinion. Also, in my case, the GP expressed the same opinion

More like over zealous fans of the original author. And, of course, the original author of the post. I believe new accounts don't have up votes though, so I don't think they can "game the system" if you're worried.

Have you tried to do the same thing with MySQL and had success? There's a lot of things in your example that could be causing you grief other than the type of SQL Server you are running; i.e. Network Security, Local Security Configuration

Regarding costs and licensing, have you heard of AppHarbor ( http://appharbor.com ). It's like Heroku but for .Net, free (at least right now) for small web apps and has SQL Server and MySQL database options. Also, I've heard mention of Biz
