There's a fun thing like this in Swift too! `Void` is an empty tuple, and has all of the related constraints (can't conform to protocols, being the most salient one). If you have a type that has to conform to, say, `Equatable` or

Anyone have a comparison to something like wgsl's compute shader mode over stuff like wgpu? I've never seriously written in either.

Thoughts on this vs wgpu (and the associated projects)?

Did you try PGO? This post seems like the thing it was built for.

Just curious - why not open source? (really cool btw, super impressive)

It's probably implemented way differently, but I worry about the driver suitability. Gaming benchmarks at least perform substantially worse on AI accelerators than even many generations old GPUs, I wonder if this extends to custom grap

People will do literally anything over building enough housing to make everyone happy

I see! That’s really cool, I’m quite curious about more about this. Any neat technical things you can share, or is it mostly just business challenges?

The other day I tried to rent a spot MI-300. I couldn't find a way to do that! Whereas fairly easy to rent an H-100. I think they're just behind a bit on their tsmc allocation! Their stock seems to think so, it's priced much

We did build housing, yes, just not in the places that needed it. The academic evidence is pretty strong, see https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w8835/w8835... for the divergence of price f

I don't think it comes up in obscure corner cases now with SwiftUI's builder types being concrete, especially with overloaded callbacks like in ForEach Edit: I just remembered my favorite one: I had a view where the compile times

I would say the opposite, actually: at least on large pure swift projects, Xcode grinds to a halt. Many of its features come with unacceptable performance cliffs which are impossible to patch. I ran into a particular problem with the build

Sure! I love talking about this stuff :) here's a few: - if you want to manager your Package.swift target, you mostly have to deal with .target enum (can't figure out how to paste the URL) You can really only do a define or unsafe

It's actually one of the big problems with Capital in the 21st century: if you strip out housing, r < g! Turns out it's all zoning and rent control all the way down! Fix zoning and you end up incidentally fixing inequality too

Swift tooling has some really! Sharp! Edges!!! If you need something quick and easier than rust or have some reason to want to take your swift code and run it elsewhere I guess this is good but I don't see why you'd use it besides

I really wish he'd listed all the flags he used. To add on to the flags already listed by some other commenters, `-mcpu` and related flags are really crucial in these microbenchmarks: over such a small change and such a small set of ti

This happened to me! My solution was to go to an apple store, buy one of their portable SSDs right there, cp everything on to the SSD (that didn't appear to use any additional space!), wipe the mac, and then rm some unneeded stuff on t

Objective-C stuff is so so weird. I often remember mike ash's post about arc runtime optimizations and how whole retain/release pairs can be elided when they're across functional boundaries. Is there a repo? Also - any reason
