I always thought this would be a great application of computational photography. Take a bunch of shots, segment stars/foreground with optical flow, then stack with no star trails.

Depends on your definition of lifelogging I guess, I would argue that most lifelogging happens on Facebook now. Most people don't want to automatically share every detail about their lives, they want to present a filtered, sanitized v

can you expand on why RGB wouldn't work? The most obvious way I can think of to include chroma information in apriltags would be to use 3 colors matched to the peak sensitivity of each channel. Does the RBG spectral sensitivity overlap

there's really nothing magical about bokeh that requires machine learning imo. Lens blur can be approximated perfectly (by human perceptual standards) given a good depth map, you just have to use a disk-shaped kernel instead of a gauss

Given a perfect depth map there is no reason lens blur can't be replicated exactly. They probably just chose some bad photos for the demo, or possibly there's some placebo effect happening. Any flaws aught to be in the depth map g

stereo depth still has a lot of issues - eg. if you're shooting a white wall or other feature-less object. Not sure if they have better algos but if you use an off-the-shelf stereo package from OpenCV or ROS there are lots of holes in

As a tourist my immediate impression is that the infrastructure is quite old compared to other world cities (why are the subways so hot?) and the touristy areas are a lot dirtier than I would have expected. There are also some NY-isms that

this should be pretty easily solved with a forward/downward facing depth sensor (to identify and avoid the debris). The fact that they didn't do this says to me that debris may not have been a major problem in testing.

it sounds like php might be better for you to learn on. You can put small snippets of it directly into html and have it be immediately useful without learning a bunch of other stuff.

is canny edge detection better than adaptivethreshold for pre-filtering the image? The AR tag implementations I've looked at all seem to use adaptivethreshold.
