But we don't interact with much of it, it could be a cached copy of another sim. Edit: Perhaps it's adaptive and only simulates what will be observed. And if some cost saving optimization artifacts are discovered within the sim,

Yes, even better. Can you recommend a password manager that works on all browsers/devices that you trust? I have not found that yet, so I use passphrases customized to the site. Edit: Also fundamentally it means that to access a single

The 'cloud' idea bothered me from the start. But not as much about bandwidth and latency, but a loss of control of private data and that the company and network become single points of failure. It's about control of my data;

Oh, then it's much more of a management problem. There's plenty of technical solutions already, you may just want a little glue with good ux design, fast internet, and good support staff, especially for the elderly. In this exampl

(EDIT: original title asked if there was something like this as open source.) Nice. It's basicly a well managed chatroulette clone. (EDIT: not quite, it also needs to record.) Or try "web video conference server open source"

I literally used a slippery slope in that argument. :| I'll try again: No-one but ourselves should be able to brick our devices. We don't actually 'own' our property if we can't 100% control what and if it runs.

Where is this killswitch proposal? I'm curious who and how it could be activated and how you verify the owner.

The idea of a kill switch is great if it can only be controlled by the owner of the device. (The person that purchased it to use.) But we have not solved that problem yet. We are still using short passwords instead of strong private keys;

Probably not, but who would have access to this kill switch/phone bricker? The customer with a private key? (...with no way it could be activated by the phone manufacture/service provider/legally forced by governments.) Proba

That's correct. So, let's get further away from this cliff of not actually owning/controlling our property, not closer. Edit: Down voting because you disagree? It's a problem that needs solving; I hope we can discuss i

Reminds me: The days before 9/11 I played with some webcams that let you pan and zoom a cam and take turns if others were using it. There was one on the Empire State because I used it that day... There may have been one on a wtc tower

I'm about 98% certain: Killwhite is identical to Gimp's "Color to Alpha" if you use white as source color. In their example, it leaves a grey color background with a little alpha. They started with a brighter blue, and

If you download the pixel blender version of the kill white plugin, you can read the source. It looks pretty simple to implement; does just a little work while in the HSV color space.
