I was curious about this, so I went to the SMBC site. It says by Zach Weinersmith; not Weinberg. Also the CTO of Reddit is Marty Weiner. That's three different last names. I think you're a little confused!

Quote from the embedded video: > In order to do this we had to build a detector the size of a 10 story building, 2 kilometers underground. In a mine, Creighton Mine, near Sudbury, Ontario... and we had the advantage of a thousand tonnes

Thanks. Reading this quote and my original side by side makes me cringe. This is a great example of the importance of language and writing skills

Interesting anecdote. Reminds me of that expression that goes something like "If you choose a career in something you love, it no longer becomes work". Pretty sure I butchered that, perhaps someone can sweep in with the proper quo

Really interesting link (I had no idea). But the commenter above was clearly being facetious

Yeah, good point. How awesome would it be if cars were modular and upgradable like tower PCs. Buy today, because you you can incrementally upgrade tomorrow

Very interesting study. I don't see any mention of the use of optical protection switching to mitigate the risk of a single fiber cut. Recent advancements in DSP have made it possible to optically protect a link over hundreds (and some

+1 for PoE. A bunch of friends and I had a weekend LAN party and took it for a ride. We all loved the additional features.

Not an expert, but I've been read that demand for oil is typically used as a leading indicator for economic growth. Seems like the global economy is slumping, and as a result doesn't need as much energy (oil)

Any ideas how to effectively police that type of permit? My gut says the infrastructure and manpower needed would be incredibly expensive. Possibly enough to negate a significant chunk of the revenue

I'm not sure, but I doubt it. You could order two or three and check for yourself. According to a stack exchange discussion [1] duplicate MAC addresses could result from spoofing, a mistake during manufacturing, or willful negligence o

I completely agree. Real hype is generated when Netflix consistently nails recommendation. Content is still king, but curation of that content is the engine that drives the whole thing

Then why are all the analysts fixated on supply-demand mechanics? Do you have further readings about the correlation between USD and the price of crude? I'm very interested.

Firstly I'll admit, I don't buy many tickets in general. However the times I used Ticketmaster I've had a neutral to positive experience. I'm always a bit annoyed at the service fees. But it takes little time to buy them

I was wondering the same thing. To me, the camera work looks very confident (smooth, even panning). Almost as if they knew exactly where the rocket was behind the clouds. Infrared sounds plausible. Or maybe they just have an high-res camera
