IMO there should be a medicare-for-all option that would provide the bare minimum of care, funded by increasing the FICA tax rate. No doubt this would be politically unpopular with the right-wing and libertarians.

Is this why hearing aids are $4000 when they probably have $0.50 of components?

C-suite salaries are so high in America I'm wondering if these sort of co-ops could be more competitive on that cost saving alone.

Anyone else feel like agile is partially to blame? The constant treadmill of work items, the stress of getting things done before sprint end, the demos failing, the anxiety when you get a bug report?

Couldn't the city set up a private WAN for the trains, avoiding the security issues of being connected to the internet?

I don't have a problem with state lotteries because it's essentially charity towards public works. You could argue that the gambling aspect makes it addictive, but it's basically entertainment.

That's just the nature of free software- you have to either trust the maintainer or do it yourself. There is not really a way around it. - Corporate maintainers are great until they enshittify things in the pursuit of profit (see Oracl

I get hay fever every Spring so I hope this field gets FDA approval, would be nice to not have to deal with a stuffy nose for an entire season.

This, I saw an anecdotal Reddit post about a guy DDoSing cell phones in a restaurant and showing off to his table. These kind of devices attract the worst people.

Man, the way Google treats paying customers is appalling... It seems very frequent that they remove [WIDELY USED FEATURE] on a whim and tell users to pound sand.

Is it even possible to build an AGI with our current computing paradigms? So far our most advanced neural networks are purpose-built for a task (i.e. ChatGPT for text communication, Dall-E for images).

Unfortunately I'm locked into gmail, migrating away from it would require days of effort and I would never be sure I moved everything. Also, YouTube is still the best video site despite going full mask-off on adblockers.

This. People don't RTFM, I make wikis that are intended to be used by the team and new hires, I make them as short as humanly possible, even suspending grammar and using sentence fragments. Yet no one reads them.

My anecdote from the US is that usually my primary care doctor will do a rapid streptococcus test if I come in with a sore throat, and only prescribe antibiotics if it comes back positive. That seems responsible enough for me.
