Your double hourly rate for contracting might be gross, and after taxes (covering both sides of FICA), health insurance, and other employer-provided benefits, the net delta could be smaller.

The sooner we can accept that most people don't have the skills or the desire to work in the knowledge economy, the better off we'll be. We are, today, perfectly equipped to handle that reality. It's true people need purpose

The world is far too big for anyone to care as to a minute detail of "Developer John Doe didn't meet my productivity metrics". That's worthy of a (mental) eye roll. Workers in this industry, at the moment, have the lever

I'd be curious how much of their revenue is ex-US. It's an interesting stat, but if we've expanded the cohort massively to include a bunch of exclusively free users, then it's less so.

It seems inaccurate as well. https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=US&q=duolingo,l... duolingo - 49, learn Spanish - 16 That's slightly over 3x, nowhere near 9x.

This is intriguing. I don't want to reply (in b2b situations) because I feel the salesperson might try to 'use me' to get to some other key decision maker within my org. I don't want that process taking up my limited tim

Doesn't every new innovation (produced by a corporation), good or bad, generally come from the experimental arm of said corporation (e.g, R&D division)? You have teams dedicating to maintaining the core business, and you have teams

I share your conclusion. The feed is so horrendous these days, the only choice is to be part of it, or not. Having left the app over a year ago, I don't feel I'm missing anything. Anyone who wants to be part of my life can text, c

> SWE can pay upwards of $500-600k after 5-10 years of experience. Just like stores have "up to" 70% discounts. One item is marked off that much, and the rest are given modest discounts. We shouldn't normalize this number

The block concept doesn't cleanly carry over to services. Bugging Notion for exports, brings them here: Step 2: Import blocks to {Some other cloud service} Which just isn't realistic. Having step 1 changes nothing.

My suggestion would be to stop using Notion. It's a novel approach, but 90% of what you want is achievable with Google Docs/Drive, Office 365, etc. My suggestion might be different if the business side was in a healthier shape.

When people are done with their tech tours, Rochester is an absolutely fantastic city to consider for your post Silicon-valley life. Biggest challenge is the weather: embrace the cold by picking up winter sports. There is a coziness to that

Correct, but the number of shares outstanding isn't infinite: it's always a fixed number. Just like there's a fixed number of square miles of land. And you can make and remove land. Lots of dredging along coastlines is done t

There's a finite number of shares. You can look up the market capitalization, divide by the price, and get the number of outstanding shares, though it's also a reported statistic on its own.

That statement implies, in no uncertain terms, that the expectation is more work for less pay. It's a flowery way of telling the candidate they're getting a bad deal. If you the scope is X+1, and you pay me X+1, we have no issue.

Biden and Schumer can't unilaterally decide Manchin's vote for him. This is a democracy, after all. Conversations are likely happening behind closed doors. So we shouldn't critique Democratic leadership just yet.
