The thing is, Microsoft does make good software: Excel, Visual Studio, VSCode, Xbox. I don't believe the problem is the engineers, the leadership of Windows fails to understand what the OS is meant for: getting out of the way so you ca

I'm not sure that's quite correct about the Turing test. From Wikipedia: "Turing did not explicitly state that the Turing test could be used as a measure of "intelligence", or any other human quality. He wanted to p

When I worked in the games industry, we would spent an incredible amount of effort, money and time on creating as realistic a world as we could muster out of the hardware. This would involve talented artists, animators, programmers and har

I have a million and one things I want to accomplish but can't due to lack of time and energy as I work full time. This includes reading, gardening, playing sports, learning to play the piano, etc. Of course some of that is consuming m

There are other search engines that are on par with Google search from a few years ago. Brave search is particularly good. These were developed without the big bucks, so the tech has improved for smaller players at least.

I really want to combine them with RAG, plus doing some agentic stuff on my home server which runs a number of services, some as Home Assistant. So I want it to read all the sensors every hour, and then message me if anything occurs out of

Revolut (the banking service) and Revolt are both British I believe... Seeing as Revolut has been around for a number of years, as a British person I wouldn't have chosen a name so close to Revolut (for any product).

Agreed - I usually scroll to the bottom of landing pages to see the Github link - which Revolt did not have. Perhaps a suggestion to the developers? It's an unwritten rule :)

Indeed. VPNs were originally created to allow secure remote connections to and between LANs. The whole privacy thing is a by-product, and they're not that great at it. Tor exists and is far better at providing privacy.

Perhaps Homomorphic encryption can provide part of the solution in running services on untrusted Cloud platforms? Although with Microsoft's recent breakthrough in their quantum processor, I'm not sure whether quantum will be a hel

The Chaos Engine forums - a site for game developers to discuss, moan, and celebrate fellow and former colleagues... Now moved to Discord due to this act. It really is a strange time we are living through. https://thechaosengine.
