So what's the solution? More affirmative action? Make it taboo to offer a stranger help if they look lost? Make it taboo to make any sort of assumptions about anyone?

This is awesome. Seriously. I never go through the regular "Who is Hiring?" thread because I don't have time to comb through a humongous list of unfiltered text posts, 90% of which aren't relevant to me. There have been

The author's rant is not specific to the tech industry at all, it's the case for practically all full-time jobs. Full-time jobs generally suck. Spending the bulk of every weekday in an office doing what you're told is not fun

If you write in Coffeescript or Clojurescript, you're not writing the "assembly" yourself. It's a perfectly valid comparison, and JS being a high-level language doesn't change anything.

Not a fan of unnecessary reposts, but this guy's death was a huge tragedy for our generation so I don't mind more people seeing this. He could've been one of the first congressmen actually in touch with our generation, and wi

I agree with this 100%. I wish it was more acceptable to take a hiatus from a traditional full-time job. I would love to take 3+ months off this summer to travel around the world since I've never gotten a chance to, but there's no

It still blows my mind that the text on the HN homepage is unreadably too small on my Samsung Galaxy S4. Surely you guys have enough money and/or technical chops to fix that?

It's ridiculous that they're allowed to waste so much of our time, taking hours to fill out paperwork with pen and paper as if it's the 20th century. That needs to change. And police officers taking selfies with the people th

You're looking at it strictly through a profit maximizing financial lens, but obviously this move isn't strictly a financial one. What if the purpose of businesses wasn't to maximize profit/ROI?
